  7.      Tanach, Targum, Mishnah, Toseftah, Yerushalmi, and Bavli.  After 30
  8.      days free trial, the full registration fee for individuals is 120 NIS
  9.      (or $50 US), and for educational institutions without limitation on
  10.      the number of users is 200 NIS (or $80 US); people of limited means
  11.      can register for less, without embarrassment of giving us any
  12.      explanation.  Updated versions of MTR are released about twice yearly,
  13.      currently without charge to registered users (but notification by
  14.      letter or email is required); if you have email, please send us your
  15.      email address with registration so that we can notify you of updates
  16.      quickly.  Registration is by mail only, and payment by check only.  We
  17.      encourage you to share the program with others, and to upload its ZIP
  18.      files and MTRAINFO.TXT to BBSs.

  20.      This rather large package (the ZIP files expand to about 28M on the
  21.      PC) should be of interest to many users of Internet who know Hebrew:
  22.      In particular students of Jewish law and others who read the Bible in
  23.      the original Hebrew (here according to the Kether Aram Tsova
  24.      manuscript) and important Jewish legal classics (Mishnah, Toseftah,
  25.      Jerusalem Talmud, Babylonian Talmud, and the Rambam's Code according
  26.      to the Yemenite manuscripts).  Additional works are in preparation and
  27.      are to be added in MTR updates.

  29.      This Torah package provides uncoded ASCII Hebrew texts, Hebrew fonts
  30.      for VGA and EGA, and Hebrew search engine:  The search engine "speaks"
  31.      only Hebrew (input, output, 22 help screens, and 7 main screens), but
  32.      printable help in English is provided.

  34.      The search engine, which comes both in stand-alone and TSR forms, can
  35.      hunt for a multi-word string of up to 75 chars and allows for search
  36.      of whole words, words with prefixes, words with suffixes, or words
  37.      with prefixes and suffixes, and supports boolean expressions of
  38.      several strings.

  40.      The stand-alone program works on text-mode screens of 25 to 60 lines,
  41.      and is Windows aware; it can send blocks of text to the Clipboard for
  42.      pasting in Windows (with options for Word-style or Dagesh-style
  43.      handling of parentheses), and no Windows for Hebrew is needed to work
  44.      with Windows word processors such as Dagesh where Hebrew support is
  45.      built in.

  47.      The TSR allows the user to choose between seeing either his text-mode
  48.      DOS word processor or the search engine on a full 25 line screen, or
  49.      optionally under VGA seeing both on a 50 line screen; the TSR can send
  50.      blocks of text to DOS word processors.

  52.      Special requirements:  DOS 3.3 or later, VGA or EGA (unless you have
  53.      MONO or CGA with a Hebrew font), 28MB free on the destination disk
  54.      (even more on big disks and on compressed disks).  This version is
  55.      Win95 compatible, unlike the previous versions.

  57.      Installation:  If you already have a version of MTR on your disk, you
  58.      must download and run MTRADEL to remove it *before* installing this
  59.      update.  To install, you need to download MTRA001.ZIP through
  60.      MTRA008.ZIP and to UNZIP with the -d option in numerical order only.

  62.      After installation, the following will be found in directory \MTR\,
  63.      which must not be erased or changed in any way (other than the batch
  64.      files or printable help files), or else MTR stops functioning:

  93.      These last six files are prepared as example batch files for running
  94.      from C:\MTR and need to be revised for use on disks other than C:.  If
  95.      you run MTR, MTRTSR, or MTRFONTS with the /? option, you will see all
  96.      of the possible loading options, some of which you may wish to add.

  98.      The following subdirectories under \MTR\ contain the uncoded Hebrew
  99.      (alef = ACSII 128) texts of the works included in this version:

  102.      TNK            Tanach in easy-to-read spelling
  103.      TNX            Tanach in masoretic spelling
  104.      ONQ            Targum Onqelos
  105.      MSH            Mishnah

  110.      None of these should be erased or changed in any way, or else MTR
  111.      stops functioning from that work and onwards (obviously if you change
  112.      or erase something from \MTR\MTR, the search engines will not work at
  113.      all).  On the other hand, if for example you do not need the Bavli,
  114.      just erase its files (saving over ten megabytes) and MTR will notice
  115.      this and work in Mishneh Torah up to the Yerushalmi.  Please do not
  116.      erase the TNK files, even if you do not like our full spelling,
  117.      because that will leave you with Mishneh Torah only (unless that is
  118.      really what you want).

  120.      If you have limited disk space, or just want to check out the program,
  121.      you can download and install MTRA001.ZIP and MTRA002.ZIP for Mishneh
  122.      Torah only (or add MTRA003.ZIP to add Bible and Onqelos, or add 
  123.      MTRA004.ZIP to add Mishnah and Toseftah).  You can later add the rest,
  124.      or download MTRADEL.ZIP to uninstall (if you have DOS 6 and above,
  125.      DELTREE \MTR can uninstall this version of MTR).
