  4.           Welcome to the Walnut Creek Simtel MSDOS archive CDROM
  5.                           June 1996 edition

  8. This CDROM contains thousands of MSDOS Shareware programs such as:
  9. programming utilities, general utilities, BBS editors, music, animation 
  10. software, graphics software, communication software, database software, 
  11. and much more.  There is so much software on this disc, you'll spend 
  12. hours browsing through hundreds of useful programs.
  13.  
  14. Here is a list of some important files and directories on the CDROM:

  16. 00global.txt        Global index of both discs
  17. 00_index.txt        Top Level index of this disc
  18. setup.exe           Windows Installation Program for this CDROM
  19.  
  20. view.exe            File Browser/Uncompressor for MS-DOS
  21. utils\w16view.exe   File Browser for Windows 3.1.
  22. utils\w32view.exe   File Browser for Windows 95, Windows NT, and Win32s.

  31. Quick Start Instructions:
  32.  
  33.   Windows 3.1/NT:
  34.     Go to "File" menu under program manager and choose Run.  At the
  35.     Command Line box, type: "D:\setup", assuming 'D' is your cdrom drive.
  36.     This will install a group folder with icons for this cdrom.
  37.  
  38.   MSDOS Quick Start:
  39.     Change to your CDROM drive and type "view".
  40.     Example:
  41.           C:\> D:
  42.           D:\> view
  43.  
  44.   Windows 95:
  45.     Insert the cdrom into the cdrom drive.  This will automatically
  46.     start a CDROM browser program called WinView.
  47.     Alternatively, you can also install the program group and icon
  48.     by selecting the "Start" menu and choosing "Run".  At the Run
  49.     box, type: "D:\setup", assuming 'D' is your cdrom drive.

  51. Using the 00_INDEX.HTM:
  52.  
  53. We have included 00_index.htm files so the user may use a Web browser
  54. to view our disc.
  55.  
  56. In order to view this disc using these 00_index.htm files, point your
  57. Web browser to the root level 00_index.htm file.
  58.  
  59. For example, in Netscape/Mosaic:
  60.  
  61.         1) Choose File/Open File (or File/Open Local File with Mosaic)
  62.         2) Choose your CDROM Drive under "Drives"
  63.         3) Select the 00_index.htm file
  64.         4) Click on OK
  65.  
  66. The 00_index.htm files have been tested under Netscape 1.1 (Windows,
  67. Macintosh, and FreeBSD), Netscape 1.22 (Windows), Netscape 2.0b2,
  68. Mosaic 2.00 (Final Beta), and Microsoft Internet Explorer.

  72. WinView and View
  73.  
  74. To make browsing the disc easier, we have included the program WinView
  75. for Windows, and the program VIEW for MSDOS on the CDROM.  These programs
  76. allow you to page through index files, browse through directories on the
  77. CD, view documentations and uncompress/install the program(s) you want
  78. onto your hard disk.

  82. Shareware

  84. This disk contains many shareware programs and images. Shareware can
  85. be considered to be a sort of try before you buy system where you are
  86. expected to pay the program author a registration fee if you find the
  87. program or image useful.  You will find details of registration
