Transcription: When the Second World War came to the Pacific, it was sudden and merciless. With the bombing of Pearl Harbor on the 7th of December, 1941, the United States was at war with Japan. A fuse had been lit and it would not be extinguished before it detonated the atomic bombs over Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The war would last for nearly four years, bringing terrible human losses and the virtual destruction of the Japanese war machine. But the events that led Japan to initiate war in the Pacific were complex and many. The influences have been building throughout Asia for decades, perhaps even centuries.
