Please read LICENSE.DOC included in this archive or on your registered disk
before you go any further. It contains important information concerning
your use of this product.
SLC Pro is offered to all as shareware. The shareware copy is crippled. Only
registered versions can save ansi screens to Searchlight Compatible Color
Text Files - and, there is a 15 second pause upon exiting the program in
unregistered versions.
Included "SLC" converted ansi screens are included in the shareware archive
for you to view. Post a message or Email someone and then press the key
sequence CONTROL-K-U, and enter one of the ".SLC" filename. Then press the
key sequence CONTROL-K-P (for message preview) and you will be able to see
what a converted ansi screen looks like. "AD.ANS" is the original ansi
screen. "AD.SLC" can be loaded into a message or Email. "ADD.SLC" can be
displayed using the #160 internal Searchlight command. Both were converted
from the original ansi screen.
If you continue to use this program, then please register. Registrations
will get you a key file that will unlock the export ability of SLC Pro...
And the 15 second pause will disappear too.
You may distribute "unmodified & unregistered" copies of SLC Pro to other
friends and BBS systems as long as there is no charge requested for the
program itself. SLC Pro may not be placed onto any CD-ROM without the
written permission of Shawn Cummings.
Registration is $10 and will get you the newest version on disk, with a key
file that will allow all future versions to work uncrippled.

│S│LC's Origin
└─┴──────────────────────────
SLC Pro is a mix of the two programs CSANSI & SLC. CSAnsi provided a simple
menu system to load and display ansi files. SLC provided the means to
convert BIN files to SL Color Coded files. SLC Pro (Shawn's Little Color
Program) will load and display ansi files, and in registered versions
it can export the ansi screen to a SL Color Coded file, both for Email &
Messages and for Menu Screens and Text files.

└─┴──────────────────────────
I have loaded some converted screens into Searchlight, and they did not
all look correct. After picking apart the screen's text file, it seems as
though it should have worked. So, in every case so far where the screens
didn't display correctly in Searchlight, I have attributed the bad
displays to Searchlight itself, and not the converted screens. In either
case you should report any bugs you find to me so that I can look at it and
determine if it is my program or Searchlight.
Some screens are also distorted after being run through a message echo.
Again, this is not because of anything SLC did, but rather the mailer,
the tosser, the importer or a mixture of all.
This version's conversions have been tested on 3 Searchlight BBSes, all
using SL 4.0a-4.5. It should be noted that SL 4.0a does not display the
underbars correctly in RIP mode. SLC Pro uses underbars throughout the
conversion for Email/Message style exports, so these will not display
correctly in RIP mode until the bug is fixed in Searchlight. It has also
been tested under Searchlight 4.5, and the same results pop up. At this
time Searchlight does not encourage the use of the underbars, since they
do not work in RIP mode.

└─┴──────────────────────────
Place all of the SLC programs and data files into a directory. The directory
can be SLC's own, or in a directory that is in your path, like the DOS
directory.
Next place the line "SET SLC=<path>" in your autoexec.bat file, where <path>
is the path to your SLC programs & data files.
That's it. SLCPro is now installed. Now move to where your ansi screens are
and call it up!
┌─┐
│U│sing SLC Pro
└─┴──────────────────────────
To use SLC Pro, place yourself in the directory that contains your ansi
screens, and call up SLCPRO.EXE
Use the DOS syntax, SLCPRO.EXE [options]
Valid Options
-------------
S ... Will cause SLCPRO to sort the file list
upon execution.
# ... Any number between 1 and 60 will cause SLCPRO
to go into slide show mode and pause # number
of seconds between screen diaplays.
SLC Pro will then load upto (680) screens from that directory, and present
them to you in a scrollable window.
If you are using an unregistered version, SLC Pro will NOT export to SL Coded
files and will also pause upon exiting the program. The "SLC.KEY" file must
be in the same directory as SLCPRO.EXE.

│E│xporting
└─┴──────────────────────────
SLCPro offers 2 ways to export your screens. Searchlight color coded text
files for Email & Messages, and Seachlight color coded text files for menu
screens and other screens displayed with Searchlight's internal #160
command. Now there is no need to maintain text and ansi screens. Just 1 SLC
screen.
While viewing an ansi screen, you can press F1 for the Email/Message export
or F5 for the #160 style export. Using the F5 format, your screens will
fail to use 2 columns to the right. This is because a carriage return
contains CHR$(13) & CHR$(10). Searchlight only has the 80 characters per
line to work with, and needs those 2 for the carriage return. I can't find
a way around it.
┌─┐
│S│lide Show Feature
└─┴──────────────────────────
To use the Slide Show feature, move to your ansi directory and at the DOS
prompt type
SLCPRO.EXE <seconds to pause between screens>
SLCPro will then move through the screens pausing for your defined seconds.
To exit the Slide Show, press ESCAPE or wait until all are displayed. You
may optionally press your <SPACE BAR> to instantly jump to the next screen
without pausing.
┌─┐
│U│sing an Ansi Editor
└─┴──────────────────────────
This feature was added so that you can quickly spin through some screens,
and shell to your favorite ansi editor to make quick adjustments to the
screens. Upon exiting your editor, you will be placed back in SLCPro.
If you are going to be using an external ansi editor you will need to create
a text file called "SLCPRO.DEF", and in the first and only line place the
path and program. (ie. "D:\THEDRAW\THEDRAW.EXE" ). SLC will append the
ansi filename. If you are using another program, SLCPro assumes that the
ansi filename can be appended. Please let me know if I should rewrite this
part.
