  107. This file, contains the Portfolio Manager license agreement, and gives
  108. you information on registering Portfolio Manager. The actual registration
  109. form is in the file, INVOICE.  Registration information may also be
  110. found in the EXIT menu, option # 6.

  112. Definition of shareware
  113. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  114. Shareware distribution gives the user a chance to try software before
  115. buying it.  Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you
  116. don't use the product, you don't pay for it.  If you try a Shareware
  117. program and continue using it, you are expected to register.  Individual
  118. programs differ on details -- some request registration while others
  119. require it, some specify a maximum trial period.  With registration, you
  120. get anything from the simple right to continue using the software to an 
  121. updated program with printed manual.

  123. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and the
  124. copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as
  125. stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like
  126. commercial authors, and the programs are of comparable quality. (In both
  127. cases, there are good programs and bad ones!)  The main difference is in
  128. the method of distribution.  The author specifically grants the right to
  129. copy and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
  130. specific group.  For example, some authors require written permission
  131. before a commercial disk vendor may copy their Shareware.

  138. this and other shareware programs can be offered at low costs.

  140. Portfolio Manager Registration Information

  142. Portfolio Manager is a copyrighted program protected by both U.S. and
  143. international copyright law.  If you obtained the program from a
  144. shareware disk vendor, an on-line computer service or bulletin board, a
  145. friend or colleague, or other similar sources, you have an UNREGISTERED
  146. shareware version.   The program was created using FOXPRO(tm) Ver 1.02
  147. and compiled with the FOXPRO(tm) compiler to produce the distribution
  148. version.

  150. The unregistered version of Portfolio Manager is functionally identical
  151. to the registered version, except the unregistered shareware version
  152. should only be used for a limited evaluation  period, as described 
  153. below.  The unregistered version does not include the bonus (see below)
  154. programs, however, the absence of these modules does NOT limit or 
  155. restrict the program in the performance of its primary functions.
  156. Installation of the registered version, when purchased, will not affect 
  157. the data entered with the unregistered version.  ALL previously entered 
  158. data still exists and is recognized by the registered version, however, 
  159. upgrading from versions prior to v5.x WILL require an upgrade utility.

  161. The registration fee for a single copy of Portfolio Manager is $49.

  187. Portfolio Manager License Agreement

  191.     SSI and Shane Software shall be used interchangeably
  192.  
  193.     (1)  Portfolio Manager is Copyrighted 1985-1995 by Shane Software
  194.     International and Steve Hane, and is protected by  U.S. domestic and
  195.     international copyright laws.
  196.  
  197.     (2)  PM, Version 5.0 and above, will usually be distributed on three
  198.     5.25 diskettes.  Disk 2 and disk 3 are identical for the registered
  199.     and evaluation copies of PM.  The label on disk 1 provides the
  200.     distinction between a registered copy and the evaluation copy.
  201.          A registered version of Portfolio Manager is a copy which was
  202.     purchased directly from Shane Software International OR an
  203.     authorized representative of SSI. It is evidenced by a diskette with
  204.     a label bearing a serial number and the word "registered".
  205.          An evaluation "shareware" copy of Portfolio Manager is a copy
  206.     distributed on diskette or via an electronic bulletin board, on-line
  207.     service, or other electronic means, obtained from shareware vendors,
  208.     or obtained from another individual, and where the label does NOT
  209.     have a serial number or the word "registered" on the disk label.
  210.  
  211.     (3) Unregistered "evaluation" copies of PM are distributed to allow
  212.     you to try the program before you pay for it.  The unregistered
  213.     shareware version of the program may be used free of charge for an
  214.     evaluation period of up to 30 days.  If you decide you like PM and
  215.     want to continue using it beyond the 30 day trial period, you should
  216.     purchase a registered copy from SSI or an authorized representative.
  217.     Continued use of the program beyond the trial period will not result
  218.     in any "hostile" action or limit program or data access.  Like most
  219.     shareware programs, it is up to the individual user to determine if
  220.     the program provides enough value to warrant continued use and hence
  221.     a formal registration.

  223.     (4)  A registered copy of PM will be registered in the name of the
  224.     person who purchased it.  Your registered copy of PM may be used on
  225.     up to two separate computers, provided you are the only person who
  226.     uses it on both machines.  This allows you to install PM on a home
  227.     computer and on a PC at work.  The registered copy of PM is not copy
  228.     protected, and you may make as many backup copies as you deem
  229.     necessary as long as they are not distributed or resold in any form.

  231.     (5) Distribution Restrictions:  You may copy and distribute an
  232.     unregistered shareware version of PM only.  The distribution disks
  233.     may be passed to other users provided you do NOT release the
  234.     registration disk to ANY other person.  Regardless of the type media
  235.     on which the program was distributed (see 2 above), you may not
  236.     give, transfer, or otherwise allow another person to have, copy,
  237.     use, or obtain in any other way a copy of a disk with a label
  238.     bearing a serial number and the word "registered".

  240.     If you distribute the shareware "evaluation" copy of PM, the
  241.     program must be distributed in its entirety, including all modules
  242.     and documentation.  Due to the size of Portfolio Manager, the
  243.     evaluation copy MUST be distributed on it's own media and may NOT be
  244.     combined with any other software without the express written consent
  245.     of the author.  An exception to the above is the addition of ".DOC"
  246.     file(s) by a vendor or distributor to explain or expand on
  247.     information about the program or it's distribution.  The price
  248.     charged for an evaluation copy of PM should not exceed an amount
  249.     which covers the reasonable costs of distribution.

  251.     (6) Portfolio Manager is a stand alone application program and
  252.     should not affect other software on your computer.  However, you
  253.     assume all responsibility for any adverse effects caused by the
  254.     use of Portfolio Manager.

  256.     (7)  Satisfaction  Guarantee:  If you are dissatisfied with a
  257.     registered copy of Portfolio Manager for any reason, regardless of
  258.     the existence of software errors or media defects, you may return
  259.     the entire package at any time up to 30 days after receipt for a
  260.     full refund of your original registration fee.

  263.     reference and distributions satisfying ALL the distribution require-
