  2. DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE

  4. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
  5. before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
  6. using it, you are expected to register it.
  7.  
  8. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
  9. should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
  10. whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
  11. fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
  12. And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
  13. has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
  14. product, you don't pay for it.

  18. Users of COLS must accept this disclaimer of warranty:
  19. "COLS is supplied as is.  The author disclaims all
  20. warranties, expressed or implied, including, without limitation,
  21. the warranties of merchantability and of fitness for any purpose.
  22. The author assumes no liability for damages, direct or conse-
  23. quential, which may result from the use of COLS."

  25. COLS is a "Shareware program" and is provided at no charge
  26. to the user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with your
  27. friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of
  28. another system.  Please share only the cols12.EXE program
  29. since, that program will contain all the necessary files and 
  30. documentation.

  32. The essence of "user-supported" software is to
  33. provide personal computer users with quality software without
  34. high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
  35. continue to develop new products.  If you find this program
  36. useful and find that you are using cols12 and continue to use
  37. cols12 after a reasonable trial period, you must make a reg-
  38. istration payment of $5.00 to Chuck Bernt.  The $5.00 
  39. registration fee will license one copy for use on any one
  40. computer at any one time.  You must treat this software just like
  41. a book.  An example is that this software may be used by any
  42. number of people and may be freely moved from one computer
  43. location to another, so long as there is no possibility of it
  44. being used at one location while it's being used at another.
  45. Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the
  46. same time.

  48. All users of cols12 must register and pay for their
  49. copies of cols12 within 30 days of first use or their license
  50. is withdrawn.  Site-License (ten or more seats) can be arranged by
  51. contacting me at one of the addresses below.  Single license users
  52. and users registering less then ten seats please use the registration
  53. form REGFORM.TXT.
