A couple of things happened that got me to write this CD label maker. First,
I've been buying CDROM's for some time, and most of my shareware ones didn't
have a proper label once I took the shrinkwarp off the new package. And the
ones in those CD 10 packs don't even have cases. So, as they sat stacked on
my shelf, I couldn't tell which was which, unless I grabbed the whole bunch
and looked through them. Now they have titles in the end windows and I can
grab the right one immediately, and it looks a lot better than a piece of
tape stuck on the side with the name in pen.
Secondly, my teenage son shares music CD's with his friends, so the cases
sometimes get lost or swapped with other ones. We can now make our own.
They may not be as colourful, but they get the job done.
I recommend that you set your printer to Near Letter Quality for best
results. Also, if you fold the end pieces before cutting to size, you may
find you get the best results. Dot matrix printers make it easy to fold on
the line because of the impact action, so those with ink jets etc. may want
to use a ruler/straight edge to fold with.
This program was written using an Epson LX-800 and a Citizen MSP-20. These
two printers behave somewhat differently. I attempted to make everything as
generic as possible, but it may not work with your hardware because there
are just too many variables. Also, don't hold me responsible for any other
troubles this program may cause, including, but not limited to, civil unrest,
flood, calamity, holes in the ozone, damages of any sort, famine, drought,
locusts, dry printer ribbons, stock market crashs, termites, or rust spots
on your '72 Datsun.
