  85.         Change  Rewrote error-handling routines, so you get a more

  91.                 strange "P " in front of the description.  Fixed.

  94.         Add     Added "FileDude will be running inside a window" option
  95.                 to the Advanced Config menu.  This option, when toggled
  96.                 on, will force FileDude to always update the ACTUAL
  97.                 position of the cursor.  This positioning of the cursor
  98.                 allows for easier viewing inside a DV, OS/2, or Windows
  99.                 window (less than full-screen.)  Submitted by Carl

  102.         Add     The FILEDUDE.LOG file will now be erased and started
  103.                 over every time it reaches 64k.
  104.  
  105.         Add     FileDude has new grammar skills.  In all template files,
  106.                 you can now have FileDude choose between a singular or
  107.                 plural form of a word.  For example:  %F3
  108.                 %[directory/directories] This example will choose either
  109.                 "directory" or "directories", depending on the value of
  110.                 the %F3 code.  0 is considered plural. Inspired by Amit
  111.                 Patel.

  113.         Add     FileDude's new grammar skills extended to the "Stats"
  114.                 display at the end of processing.
  115.  
  116.         Fix     Fixed the error when FileDude tried to upload a filelist
  117.                 to a .DIR that was not accessible due to SHARE.
  118.                 FileDude will now simply tell the user that it cannot
  119.                 upload the filelist.
  120.  
  121.         Fix     FileDude no longer deletes the actual file when it
  122.                 encounters a duplicate entry in the same area as the
  123.                 original entry.  The format of FILEDIZ.DAT and
  124.                 VIRSCAN.DAT and the .SWP files was changed to make this
  125.                 possible.  Submitted by Daniel Osborn.

  127.         Add     "Set Hatch Flag" option added to the Misc menu.  This
  128.                 option instructs FileDude to set the hatch flag on for
  129.                 file entries which are uploaded or updated by FILES.BBS.

  132.         Add     "Auto Virus Validate" option added to the Misc menu.
  133.                 This option, to be used in conjunction with "Set Hatch
  134.                 Flag", instructs FileDude to automatically consider all
  135.                 entries with the hatch flag ON to be free of viruses.
  136.                 You only need to process the files with this option once
  137.                 for it to take effect. Running it more than once will
  138.                 not harm it, though.  This option is intended to avoid
  139.                 redudant virus checks when running a .TIC -> FILES.BBS
  140.                 manager which does virus checking.  Submitted by Carl

  143.         Change  Because the Misc menu was getting so big, all
  144.                 filelist-related options have been moved to a brand new
  145.                 menu called [gasp] the Filelist menu.  The Misc menu has
  146.                 also be reorganized.
  147.  
  148.         Add     "Process New Areas" option added to the Misc menu. This
  149.                 option instructs FileDude to automatically place checks
  150.                 next to new areas in the Area Config menu.  In other
  151.                 words, this option tells FileDude to scan for new areas
  152.                 and add them to the processing list on the next run.
  153.                 This option only affects the current config; the new
  154.                 areas will not be automatically processed by other
  155.                 configurations unless their "Process New Areas" flags
  156.                 are toggled on.  Submitted by Michael Glenn.

  158.         Add     "Only List New Files" option added to the Filelist menu.
  159.                 This option instructs FileDude to only include newly
  160.                 uploaded files on the generated filelist.  The number of
  161.                 days limit for what is considered "new" is defined in
  162.                 the Basic Config menu.

  164.         Fix     FileDude would sometimes have an error if a FILEDIZ.DAT
  165.                 was greater than 16,384 bytes and was not a multiple of
  166.                 16,384.  The problem was not as stupid as it sounds --
  167.                 it was very interesting, in fact -- but the details are
  168.                 "beyond the scope of this document."  Submitted by Nick

  171.         Add     "Information" static window added to menu screen.
  172.                 Inspired by Carl Morris (and his illogical need to know
  173.                 which config he's working on...)

  175.         Fix     FileDude now correctly virus scans non-archives and
  176.                 files of unknown archive types.  It wasn't copying the
  177.                 files into the directory it virus scans.

  179.         Add     "No Decompression" option added to Misc menu.  This
  180.                 option instructs FileDude to not decompress archives
  181.                 before running the virus scanner defined in Basic
  182.                 Configuration.  This allows you to use upload
  183.                 processors, such as THD, as your virus scanner.

  185.         Fix     If "Check Version" was checked and you ran FileDude with
  186.                 the /NOMENU option, it would bomb out with an array
  187.                 overrun error.  FileDude was having problems writing a
  188.                 DEL.BBS for files with no extended descriptions.

  190.         New     An OS/2 version of FileDude -- FileDude/2 -- has been
  191.                 created.
  192.  
  193.         Fix     Fixed all the QEMM-type memory exceptions and other
  194.                 problems resulting from memory corruption.

  196.         Add     "Compression Wildcard" and "Decompression Wildcard"
  197.                 fields added to the "Archive Config" menu.  This allows
  198.                 FileDude to use archivers which do not use "*.*" as
  199.                 their wildcard specification.  Most notably, this now
  200.                 allows FileDude/2 for OS/2 to use Info-ZIP for OS/2.

  220.         Mod:  Registration is now only US $10.  That's a low price for
  221.               all the benefits you get when you register.

  223.         Fix:  FileDude can how handle 1024 file areas, the maximum
  224.               Renegade allows.

  226.         New:  Multiple template sets.  You can now define a template
  227.               directory in the Basic Configuration menu.  Each config
  228.               can have its own template directory.

  230.         Change:  FILE_ID.DIZ is now always used before DESC.SDI. Many
  231.                  people requested this.  A LOT of people.
  232.  
  233.         Fix:  If a compressed filelist (such as FILELIST.ZIP) already
  234.               exists, FileDude will now delete it before creating a
  235.               new one.  Before, programs such as PKZIP would just add
  236.               the file into an existing archive, and if you changed the
  237.               filelist filename, you'd end up with two different files
  238.               in the archive when you only wanted one.

  241.         Fix:  FileDude now correctly wraps descriptions with pipe color
  242.               codes.  Before, it was not measuring the lines correctly.

  245.         Fix:  FileDude was not closing the FILES.BBS before deleting it.
  246.               It now closes it properly.
  247.  
  248.         New:  "Mark Filelist As New" toggle in the Misc menu.  If
  249.               toggled on, the upload date on the filelist entry will
  250.               be updated so your users will see it on their newscan.
  251.               Regardless of this toggle, users will still find the
  252.               filelist on their newscan the first time FileDude uploads
  253.               it.  Submitted by Carl Morris.

  255.         New:  %TI = Current time.  This MCI code is useful if you want
  256.               users to know when your filelist is created, for example.

  259.         Fix:  FileDude leaves a few more bytes of itself in memory
  260.               when shelling to DOS.  This fixes a problem under
  261.               Desqview, where COMMAND.COM might have trouble reloading.

  264.         Fix:  Color was not reset upon exit.  This resulted in a "nice
  265.               shade of magenta."  FileDude now properly restores your

  268.         Fix:  When extracting FILE_ID.DIZ from archives, FileDude will
  269.               now delete the previous one in the temporary directory no
  270.               matter what file attributes it has.  Before, a FILE_ID.DIZ
  271.               with a read-only attribute, for example, would prevent
  272.               FileDude from deleting it, thus causing files with no
  273.               FILE_ID.DIZ to inherit the description.  Yikes!
  274.  
  275.         New:  "Validated Filelist" toggle in the Misc menu.  This toggle
  276.               will prevent unvalidated and resume files from showing up
  277.               on your filelist. Submitted by Carl Morris.
  278.  
  279.         New:  FileDude finds FILE_ID.DIZ and DESC.SDI files inside ZIP
  280.               and ARJ archives faster.  It now internally recognizes
  281.               their header formats.
  282.  
  283.         Fix:  A very bad bug in the configuration file's packing routine
  284.               was corrected.  This would lead to loss of data and
  285.               messages like "Data file tampered with!"  But it's fixed
  286.               now, and the packing is actually faster.
  287.  
  288.         New:  When scanning for FILE_ID.DIZ and DESC.SDI files, FileDude
  289.               now keeps a record (in FILEDIZ.DAT) of which files it has
  290.               scanned.  This "memory" is based on the CRC-32 of several
  291.               file statistics, so if anything about that file changes,
  292.               FileDude will rescan it.
  293.  
  294.               If you want to rescan ALL files for DIZ or SDI
  295.               descriptions, simply delete the FILEDIZ.DAT file.
  296.  
  297.         Fix:  FileDude should now properly handle areas which you have
  298.               just set up and RG has not yet created a .DIR file for.
  299.  
  300.         Fix:  When processing areas, you can now abort between areas
  301.               which do not contain any files.
  302.  
  303.         New:  FileDude now contains a default "Virus scanner
  304.               commandline" (in the Basic Configuration menu) for McAfee
  305.               SCAN v.2.1.1 and up. This version is one of the first of a
  306.               new line of scanners from McAfee. It's much better than
  307.               the old line.
  308.  
  309.               You can find this scanner on a board near you as the
  310.               filename SCN-2xxx.ZIP, where 'xxx' is an interesting
  311.               hexadecimal version number of some sort.
  312.  
  313.         Fix:  The "Delete Offline" toggle no longer requires the "Fix
  314.               Offline" toggle to be turned on.  What a dumb dependency.
  315.  
  316.         Fix:  Nows finds files in the upload directory.  Before,
  317.               FileDude marked any files in the upload directory as
  318.               offline, since the program only checked the download
  319.               directory.  The FILES.BBS-type list, however, must still
  320.               be in the download directory.
  321.  
  322.         New:  "Fix Upload Date" toggle in the Fix menu.  FileDude will
  323.               set the .DIR date to "today's date" when it finds a file
  324.               is newer than the .DIR entry's date.  If you get a file
  325.               through a network file echo, for example, this means that
  326.               any new versions of a file will show up on a newscan
  327.               when FileDude updates the .DIR.
  328.  
  329.         Mod:  Filelists are now uploaded as VALIDATED, regardless of the
  330.               "Don't Validate" toggle.
  331.  
  332.         New:  Formatting of MCI codes in the filelist templates has been
  333.               completely revamped.  See the new FDMCI.DOC for details.

  337.         Mod:  FileDude now imports descriptions from ZIP and ARJ

  381.         Mod:  Swapping routines are now used when shelling to DOS for
