  4. University of Vaasa, Finland, Linux Pentium garbo.uwasa.fi has a
  5. large collection of Shareware, Freeware and Public Domain PC
  6. programs available by anonymous FTP, WWW (World Wide Web) and mail
  7. server. The file ftp://garbo.uwasa.fi/pc/ts/0news-ts contains news
  8. about the TS-programs in the /pc/ts directory (in reverse order).

  21.  Printing text files with various printers
  22. The programs are functionally unchanged, but I have brought the
  23. information material in the package up to date. I have also added
  24. the standard FILE_ID.DIZ identification file into the package. As
  25. you probably know, many BBS systems display the contents of these
  26. comment files on their file lists.

  28. Sat 20-Jun-92: I recently acquired a HP Desk Jet 500 printer at home
  29. and have programmed a menu driven system SETHP.EXE to set the
  30. printer. It is available in my updated garbo.uwasa.fi:/pc/ts/
  31. tsprn16.zip printer program collection.

  33. Tue 10-Jul-90: I have specialized programs for printing text files
  34. to three printers, which I use myself. These are the Diconix Inkjet
  35. Parallel Printer Model 150, Daisy Bubble Jet parallel printer, and
  36. Gabriele 8008 daisywheel serial typewriter. I have also two programs
  37. with pull-down menus for setting the Diconix and the Daisy. These
  38. programs are contained in /pc/ts/tsprn15.arc update. What I've done
  39. is to have introduced line editing potential into user interfaces,
  40. added controlled ctrl-c and break interrupting, and made the
  41. off-line response times from the printers much quicker. Without
  42. speeding them up, the off-line response times can be annoying long
  43. depending on your hardware. You can use these programs on any PC for
  44. these printers, but originally the Diconix program was developed for
  45. a Zenith Z-181 laptop, and hence the information file contains some
  46. special advice for Z-181 users.
  47.    The are two pulldown menu driven programs (setdico and setdaisy)
  48. for convenient setting of the Diconix and Daisy printers. And next
  49. on a more technical note. Originally, one of the reasons (besides
  50. wanting to be able to set these printers easily) I wrote these these
  51. programs to try pulldown menu programming in Turbo Pascal. One
  52. feature of many such programs is the ability to exit to a Dos shell,
  53. and I included this feature. One of the problems with a Dos shell is
  54. that it is easy to forget being in a shell and needing to type exit.
  55. (If you don't do that you may run out of memory.) Now SemWare's
  56. QEdit has a nice trick to remind you of being in the shell. It adds
  57. [QE] to the prompt while in the shell. What I've done in the new
  58. release is to program (the inevitable) [TS] addendum to the shell
  59. prompt. This turned out to be quite a challenging piece of
  60. programming, and the logic is much due to a PD code by Ron Cravis
  61. published in a Turbo Pascal FidoNet conference from Rivendell TAP/1
  62. (1:260/340).

  64. Wed 9-Aug-89: Released update tsprn13.arc.  It contains utilities
  65. for printing text files, and setting Diconix and Daisy Inkjet
  66. printers.  The changes are in the printer setting programs.

  68. Mon 10-Jul-89: I have been interested in the techniques for making
  69. pull-down menus, and MS-DOS gateways, which are so often used in
  70. commercial programs in their user interfaces.  So, I decided to try
  71. it out.  This resulted in two new programs setdico.exe and
  72. setdaisy.exe.  They are programs for setting Diconix InkJet and
  73. Daisy BubbleJet printers.  These programs are included in the
  74. printer program package, which has been at the same time been
  75. upgraded from tsprn11.arc to tsprn12.arc.
