  18. I) INTRODUCTION
  19. ---------------
  20. Slides Shower is a high-performance graphic display screen saver
  21. developed using the graphic engine developed by LEAD Techonoligies, Inc., 
  22. an industry leader in imaging technology. The software is capable of 
  23. recognizing over 40 image file formats including BMP, JPEG, Kodak Photo CD, 
  24. AVI, TIFF, Windows Metafile,  PCX, DCX, CALS Raster, MacPaint, GEM Image, 
  25. Microsoft Paint, Macintosh PICT, LEAD CMP, WinFAX, etc.

  27. Photo albums created by Images Control (another graphics software package 
  28. written by me) can also be used in Slides Shower screen  savers. From the 
  29. Windows Control panel, simply choose "Slides Shower" as your screen saver 
  30. and select your favorite album for the slide show.

  32. You can obtain a hardcopy of any image you like during the slide show 
  33. simply by pressing the "P" key.  A print preview window will appear to 
  34. let you position and resize the image before printing.

  59. HARDWARE/SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

  72. * Microsoft Windows 3.1/3.11/95/NT workstation.

  74. Slides Shower was designed and tested under Microsoft Windows 95 on
  75. a 150 MHz PCI Pentium-based computer with 32 MB of RAM, a 2 MB PCI 
  76. Diamond Stealth VRAM (S3-968).

  79. OPERATION
  80. ---------
  81. Once the slide show screen saver started, you can have it interrupted by 
  82. the movement of your mouse, a keypress, or both.  This can be set under
  83. "Options" on the menu.
  84.  
  85. During the slides show, any other keys will stop the slide show, except 
  86. these 3 keys:
  87. * Press "P" to print the current image.
  88. * Press "C" to access the configuration screen.
  89. * Press "A" to verify the version number.
  90.  
  91. If you select the "Audio CD" as your audio source, don't forget to put 
  92. an audio CD in the drive so when the screen saver activates, the CD 
  93. will be played automatically.
  94.  
  95. If you select the "WAV file" as your audio source, a directory dialog
  96. box will appear to allow you to select the directory where you have
  97. your WAV files.
  98.  
  99. The default time delay between slide show is 2 seconds, you can set this
  100. to a faster or longer interval by clicking "Show Inerval" under "Options".
  101.  
  102. The "Display image properties" is useful for scanning through a directory
  103. and display all known images along with their properties such as file
  104. size, resolution, and color depths.  This caption can be turned off by
  105. checking off the "Display image properties" box.
  106.  
  107. You can either use the default random wipe pattern or have Slides Shower
  108. sequentially cycle through all 29 transitional effects.
  109.  
  110. Those of you purchased the Images Control suite (a photo album builder and
  111. image processing/enhancement package), you can use the photo albums you
  112. built for the slide show.  Be sure to select the "Images Control photo
  113. album" in the "Image Source" section, then click on the file dialog icon
  114. to select the album you want.
  115.  
  116. If you have problem printing in the registered version, you may want to
  117. bypass the "Colors Optimization" box in the print preview menu.

  120. SCANNING SERVICE
  121. ----------------
  122. For those of you who don't have access to a scanner to make your own
  123. custom slide shows, I offer to scan all your photos for $2 a piece plus
  124. S&H.  You mail me your pictures and choose the format (I recommend JPEG
  125. for picture quality and compression ratio,) I'll mail you back the
  126. scanned images on 3.5" disks.

  129. SUPPORTED IMAGE FILE FORMATS
  130. ----------------------------
  131. Slides Shower was developed using LEAD Technologies LEADTOOLS VBX 
  132. Professional.  Below is the list of image file formats which Slides 
  133. Shower supports:
  134.  
  135. AVI.    Microsoft Audio/Video Interleave.
  136.  
  137. LEAD.   This is the LEAD CMP compressed format for grayscale and color 
  138.     images.
  139.  
  140. JFIF.   This is a JPEG File Interchange Format with full color spacing 
  141.     (YUV 4:4:4).
  142.  
  143. LEAD1JFIF.              
  144.     This is a JPEG File Interchange Format with YUV 4:1:1 color 
  145.     spacing, to produce a smaller JFIF file.      
  146.  
  147. LEAD2JFIF.              
  148.     This is a JPEG File Interchange Format with YUV 4:2:2 color 
  149.     spacing, to produce the smallest JFIF file.
  150.  
  151. JTIF.   This is a JPEG Tagged Interchange Format with full color spacing 
  152.     (YUV 4:4:4).

  154. LEAD1JTIF.              
  155.     This is a JPEG Tagged Interchange Format with YUV 4:1:1 color 
  156.     spacing, to produce a smaller JTIF file.
  157.  
  158. LEAD2JTIF.              
  159.     This is a JPEG Tagged Interchange Format with YUV 4:2:2 color 
  160.     spacing, to produce the smallest JTIF file.
  161.  
  162. TIFF.   This is a tag-based file format designed to promote universal 
  163.     interchanges of digital image data. Because TIFF files do not 
  164.     have a single way to store image data, there are many versions 
  165.         of TIFF. Slides Shower supports the most common TIFF formats.
  166.  
  167. MPT.    This is a multipage TIFF format that enables a file to contain 
  168.     more than one image. It is handled the same as a regular TIFF 
  169.     file, except for the multipage feature.
  170.  
  171. TIFF LZW.               
  172.     These files use the Tagged Image File Format with LZW compression.
  173.  
  174. TIFF CCITT.             
  175.     These are compressed TIFF files that are commonly used for FAX 
  176.     transmission and document imaging.
  177.  
  178. TIFF CCITT Group 3.     
  179.     These are TIFF CCITT files in a format that is more advanced 
  180.         and more compressed than TIFF CCITT.
  181.  
  182. TIFF CCITT Group 4.     
  183.     These are TIFF CCITT files in a format that is more advanced 
  184.     and more compressed than TIFF CCITT Group 3.
  185.  
  186. ICO    Microsoft icon file format.
  187.  
  188. IOCA (ICA).             
  189.     This is the Image Object Content Architecture developed by IBM. 
  190.  
  191. WinFax Group 3.         
  192.     This is a FAX format created by Delrina for Group 3 support.
  193.  
  194. WinFax Group 4.         
  195.     This is a FAX format created by Delrina for Group 4 support.
  196.  
  197. FAX Group 3.            
  198.     This is a raw FAX format (without a header) for Group 3 support. 
  199.  
  200. FAX Group 4.            
  201.     This is a raw FAX format (without a header) for Group 4 support.
  202.  
  203. Truevision TGA (TARGA). 
  204.     This is a file format created by Truevision Inc.
  205.  
  206. PNG (Portable Network Graphics). 
  207.     This is a replacement for the GIF format. It is a full-featured 
  208.     (non-LZW) compressed format intended for widespread use without 
  209.     legal restraints.
  210.  
  211. Photoshop 3.0 (PSD). 
  212.     This is the format produced by the Adobe Photoshop graphics 
  213.     editor.
  214.  
  215. Windows Bitmap (BMP). 
  216.     This is a file format created by Microsoft. Some BMP images are 
  217.     compressed with an RLE type compression.
  218.  
  219. Windows Metafile (WMF). 
  220.     These files are not bitmap based images. A Windows metafile 
  221.     consists of a collection of device independent functions that 
  222.     represents an image. When a program loads a metafile, these 
  223.     functions are executed to obtain the image.
  224.  
  225. PCX.    This is a file format created by ZSoft. This format compresses 
  226.     its image data with the RLE type compression.
  227.  
  228. DCX.    This is a multipage PCX format that enables a file to contain 
  229.     more than one image. It is handled the same as a regular PCX 
  230.     file, except for the multipage feature.
  231.  
  232. PostScript Raster (Encapsulated PostScript). 
  233.     These files are used primarily on PostScript printers. These 
  234.     printers usually offer more variety of fonts and higher 
  235.     resolution than standard laser printers. EPS files will work on 
  236.     any PostScript compatible printer and any end user application 
  237.     that supports placement of EPS files in its work space.
  238.  
  239. OS/2 Bitmap (OS/2 BMP). 
  240.     These are files created on an OS/2 operating system.
  241.  
  242. CALS Raster. 
  243.     These are 1-bit CCITT Group 4 CALS raster files. CALS is a U.S. 
  244.     government standard.
  245.  
  246. MacPaint (MAC). 
  247.     These Macintosh Paint files are commonly used for monochrome 
  248.     clip art.
  249.  
  250. GEM Image (IMG). 
  251.     These files are native to the Graphical Environment Manager 
  252.     developed by Digital Research.
  253.  
  254. Microsoft Paint (MSP). 
  255.     These files from early versions of Windows are used for black-
  256.     and-white drawings and clip art.
  257.  
  258. WordPerfect (WPG). 
  259.     These are WordPerfect raster files. 
  260.  
  261. SUN Raster (RAS). 
  262.     These files are native to Sun UNIX platforms.
  263.  
  264. Macintosh Pict (PCT). 
  265.     These files, produced using Macintosh QuickDraw, are used in 
  266.     desktop publishing and imaging applications.
  267.  
  268. LEAD 1BIT. 
  269.     These are 1-bit LEAD compressed files.
  270.  
  271. PCD.    
  272.     These are Kodak PhotoCD files. These read-only files can 
  273.     contain multiple resolutions. You can specify which of the 
  274.     resolutions to read.
  275.  
  276. NOTE: Because of the battle between Unisys and many software 
  277. developers over the GIF format royalty fees, Slides Shower will not 
  278. support GIF. Instead, Slides Shower supports a new rising star that's 
  279. supposed to be a much better replacement for GIF called PNG (Portable 
  280. Network Graphics). CompuServe has adopted PNG and has been shifting 
  281. their support for GIF to PNG.

  284. REGISTRATION
  285. ------------
  286. The registration fee is $14.  If you purchased Images Control, another
  287. photo albums builder/image enhancement/processing software, Slides
  288. Shower is bundled with the package at no charge.  Images Control
  289. registration fee at of this writing is $25.

  336. 1)  Slides Shower and all of its release files must be copied in unmodified form, 
  337.     complete with the file containing this license information.

  340.     downloading only as long as the above conditions are met.  An overall or 
  341.     time-dependent charge for the use of the bulletin board system is permitted
