=- COPYRIGHT -=
PC SCI-FI TRIVIA MARATHON, Copyright (c) 1996 by Don McClain and
Cyber Artists Studios, is being distributed as Shareware. Under this
distribution method, you may use this product for a period not to
exceed 30 days for evaluation purposes. After this period, you must
either register your copy or discontinue use.
=- PROGRAM OVERVIEW -=
PC SCI-FI TRIVIA MARATHON (aka PCSFTM) is a game of trivia pertaining
to the entertaining worlds of science-fiction and fantasy in film,
television, books, etc. Points are awarded for each correct answer.
Points on based on time left on the timer when the correct answer was
selected. Players continue to answer questions until they select an
incorrect answer. At that time, their play for that round is
finished. A record is kept of the Highest Score. After each round, a
player's score is compared to that Highest Score to determine if the
player has passsed that score. If so, that player and his score are
entered in the Highest Score record.
The PC SCI-FI TRIVIA MARATHON, 1996 Edition, version 1.19 contains a
500 question database.
=- SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS -=
PCSFTM is written to run in a DOS (4.1 or higher) environment. It is
not designed to be run from within a Windows operating environment.
PCSFTM requires a minimum of a 386SX-16. However, at least a 386SX-33
is recommended. PCSFTM may, I repeat MAY, run on a 286 PC. However,
it was tested at the base low end on a 386SX-16 with 2 MB of RAM.
Base high end testing was done on a Pentium 100mhz with 16 MB of RAM.
PCSFTM requires a minimum of 2 MB of RAM. PCSFTM requires just under
1 MB of hard drive space including space used by temporary files.
PCSFTM requires a VGA card capable of 640x480, 256 colors. Though not
required for the game to run, PCSFTM requires a Sound Blaster or
compatible for sound support.
=- Packing List -=
Below are all the files that should be included in the PCSFTM
archive. If you are missing ANY of these files, you have an
incomplete package. Do not attempt to install or operate PCSFTM with
an incomplete package. Inform the site from which you downloaded the
incomplete archive of the problem and download PCSFTM from another
site.
ALARM.WAV
GO.BAT
PCSFTM.EXE
SCORELOG.DAT
PCSFTM.CFG
FILE_ID.DIZ
SFTRIV.DAT
OPEN.WAV
CORRECT.WAV
INTRO.EXE
BEGIN.WAV
HIGHSCOR.WAV
SERVO.WAV
REGISTER.TXT
MANUAL.DOC
ENTER.WAV
It should be noted that many BBS systems will add a file that is
something of an advertisement for their system. This is a way for
these systems to promote themselves. Cyber Artists Studios does not
object to this so long as the file is not exceptionally large. The
above files, however, are the ones you must have to have a complete
archive package.
=- INSTALLATION -=
1. - UnZIP the contents of the distribution archive into a directory.
2. - Modify PCSFTM.CFG. This file is a simple text file and can be
easily edited by any text editor. The configuration file is comprised
of 3 lines defined as follows:
Don <- Your First Name
McClain <- Your Last Name
00000 <- Your Registration Number
3. - If you decide to register the game, you will need to edit the
configuration file to insert your registration number. Registration
will unlock the entire database for the game and allow you to play
all future upgrades and updates.
=- To Start -=
You begin PC Sci-Fi Trivia Marathon by simply typing:
go
and hitting the enter key. You must have a pcsftm.cfg file in
place, however.
=- Player Instructions -=
Player instructions are available within the game program from the
opening menu.
=- SOUND SUPPORT -=
At the start, PCSFTM will attempt to locate your sound card if one
exists. If located, PCSFTM will automatically utilize it. If your
sound card does not meet the Sound Blaster compatibility standards,
PCSFTM most likely will not be able to utlilize it. The game should
still function, but, without sound. Should you answer yes when the
program asks you if you have a Sound Blaster sound card installed and
the program fails to run, simply reboot and answer no when the
program asks you if you have a Sound Blaster sound card installed.
There may simply be something in the configuration of your system
that prevents PCSFTM from using your sound card.
=- UNREGISTERED VERSION LIMITATIONS -=
The following limitations are active within the Unregistered
Demonstration version of PC Sci-Fi Trivia Marathon:
1. Only the first 100 questions of database available.
2. "Unregistered Demonstration Version" at bottom of question
screen. Registered versions will state "This Copy Of PC Sci-Fi Trivia
Marathon Registered To *** *******" with your name.
=- REGISTRATION -=
Registration of PC Sci-Fi Trivia Marathon 1996 Edition is currently
$15 as of May 22, 1996. Cyber Artists Studios reserves the right to

Artsists Studios Distribution Site, simply contact us at one of the
addresses listed below and let us know. All that we require is that
you carry the latest unregistered version of all programs distributed
by Cyber Artists Studios in your system libraries. We do not require
a separate library for our programs. You may list them within the
most appropriate libraries on your system. At the present time, Cyber
Artists Studios plans on approximately 4-8 releases per year. In
addition, periodic upgrades and yearly updates to previous programs
will also be released.

uploaded file available to the public for download.
=- ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS -=
I would like to thank my wife and children for being patient and
enduring my occassional bouts with insanity the past few months as
PC Sci-Fi Trivia Marathon and its BBS relative evolved.
I would also like to thank those who were brave enough to subject
their computers and their patience to the alpha and beta testing of
my creations, but, of any author's creations. Without you brave and
patient folks, our job would be immensely more difficult.
I would also like to acknowledge Raymond W. Marron of Homonculous
Programming for sub-programs and routines provided by his Homonculous
Library that he has graciously released to the public domain. Also to
Richard Gardner whose routines provided the basis of the sound
routines in PCSFTM.
And I would like to thank those of you out there who will register
PC Sci-Fi Trivia Marathon because you intend to use it. In a time
when it has become easy, and to many a matter of course, to simply
steal registration codes or crack programs, those of you who register
your programs and let the author know that you appreciate his or her
efforts are to be commended and applauded. Your sense of honesty,
respect and gratitude is what keeps the shareware concept alive and
shareware authors trying. Again, I appreciate and I thank you.
