  40. I. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION.
  41.  
  42. ImgViewer/32 is a Windows95/NT program for viewing and printing 
  43. digital images in a variety of standard formats.  Image formats 
  44. supported include GIF, .BMP, PCX, TGA, TIF, .JPG, and .PNG. GIF, 
  45. PNG, and PCX provide compression of 256-color images, while .JPG and 
  46. PNG provides compression for 16-million color images, thus saving 
  47. disk space.  The Help file contains a section which discusses 
  48. the advantages/disadvantages of each format.
  49.  
  50. ImgViewer/32 has editing features and file conversion routines built 
  51. in, which allow you to change images to suit your needs.  You can 
  52. crop, resize, stretch, rotate, mirror, flip, sharpen, soften, extract 
  53. edges, negate and adjust brightness, contrast and gamma.
  54.  
  55. A quick Zoom Tool provides instant magnification of areas of an 
  56. image, for close inspection.
  57.  
  58. Full documentation is included in the form of a Windows Help file.  
  59. When you desire help, press your F1 function key for context-sensitive 
  60. help, or press the help button if you are in a dialog box.
  61.  
  62. ImgViewer/32 is shareware.  It is fully functional and provides 
  63. all features that are included in the registered version, but 
  64. it will "nag" non-registered users occasionally.  You are 
  65. entitled to evaluate the program for a period of 30 days, after 
  66. which you are expected to register for continued use.  When you 
  67. register, you will receive a copy that includes a key file that 
  68. eliminates the nag screens for the current and future versions.  
  69.  
  70. ImgViewer/32 contains functions which can read and write the .GIF format, 
  71. which contains compression technology covered by U.S. Patent No. 
  72. 4,558,302, owned by the Unisys corporation.  The author of ImgViewer/32 has 
  73. obtained a license from Unisys, and pays a royalty on each 
  74. sale, to use this technology. The following statement is 
  75. required by that license:
  76.  
  77.     "Use of this software is permitted only to the extent
  78.     reasonably required to determine whether to purchase
  79.     the software.
  80.  
  81.     "After payment is made, use of this software is limited
  82.     to use on only a single personal computer or
  83.     workstation which is not used as a server.  An
  84.     additional payment is required for each use on
  85.     another personal computer or workstation.
  86.  
  87.     "Only a single copy may be made of this software
  88.     solely for backup or archival purposes.  The software
  89.     may also be transferred to a single hard disk.
  90.  
  91.     "Any use of this software in violation of the above is
  92.     not licensed.

  103. II. Program requirements.
  104.  
  105. ImgViewer/32 requires an IBM compatible 486 or better, running 
  106. Windows 95, or Windows NT, with at least 12 megs of RAM and VGA or 
  107. better graphics.  Recommended: Pentium 75 or better with an 
  108. accelerated graphics adapter.
  109.  
  110. Most operations require a mouse.
  111.  
  112. Graphics files can be quite large, particularly with true-color, so a 
  113. large hard disk is recommended.  ImgViewer/32 will require about 2 
  114. megs for program installation.
  115.  
  116. III. Installing ImgViewer/32
  117.  
  118. To install ImgViewer/32, run the included setup program.  If the 
  119. program is on a floppy disk, you can use File/Run in the Program 
  120. Manager and type a:\ivsetup or b:\ivsetup, whichever drive is involved.  
  121. You can use the same technique to run setup from a directory on your 
  122. hard drive by supplying the full path, such as c:\temp\ivsetup.  
  123. Alternatively you can use File manager to find the files and 
  124. double-click on IVSETUP.EXE.
  125.  
  126. Windows 95/NT-4 users can use the "Add/Remove Programs" item in the 
  127. Control Panel to find and start IVSETUP.
  128.  
  129. If you obtained ImgViewer/32 by downloading it from a computer 
  130. Bulletin Board (BBS) or another online source, two necessary files 
  131. may not have been included.  You will need files called VB40032.DLL 
  132. and MFC40.DLL, if they do not happen to already be on your 
  133. system.  Information on obtaining these files are in section V.
  134.  
  135. IV.  Getting Started.
  136.  
  137. Double-click the ImgViewer/32 icon to start the program.  If this is 
  138. not a registered copy you may see a shareware "nag" screen.  This 
  139. screen will only be repeated every 10 days, so as to not unduly 
  140. interfere with your operation of the program.  Click OK, or you may 
  141. choose to print an order form.

  143. When you see the main program window, Click the "open file" icon at the 
  144. left end of the icon bar, and then browse for image files to view.  
  145.  
  146. If you would like to alter the image, most of the items in the Image 
  147. menu are simple.  Browsing the help file will provide you with more 
  148. information on the image-altering functions.   
  149.  
  150. V.  FILES AND UNINSTALLING
  151.  
  152. If, when you install ImgViewer/32, you are told that one or more 
  153. system files are needed (or the program fails to run with a message 
  154. that one of these files is missing), you will need to obtain them.  
  155. Both files should be placed in the Windows\System directory (System32 
  156. for NT).  Because they are required for many programs they are not 
  157. usually packaged with any programs for download from online services.  
  158. They ARE included if you got the program on disk from the author.  The 
  159. two files are:

  161. VB40032.DLL, A "runtime" library for programs written in Visual Basic 
  162. 4.0.  This file is almost always available from any source that has 
  163. ImgViewer/32 available.
  164.  
  165. MFC40.DLL, A library for components written in Visual C++ version 4.  
  166. As with the VB runtime, this file is generally also available from any 
  167. source for ImgViewer/32.

  186. When ImgViewer/32 is installed, a program (UNINSTAL.EXE) and a data 
  187. file (INSTALL.LOG) are placed in the ImgV32 directory.  The 
  188. following information is provided to aid in removing the 
  189. program in case those files are lost or damaged.
  190.  
  191. Files distributed with ImgViewer/32:
  192.  
  193. IVSETUP.EXE 
  194. This file contains all of the program files.  Running it will 
  195. install of the files where they belong, and will also produce a 
  196. record and program that can be used to uninstall this package. 
  197.  
  198. README.TXT 
  199. The text file you are reading now.  It is placed outside 
  200. the main install program so that it is readable before the 
  201. program is installed. 
  202.  
  203. VENDINFO.DIZ, FILEID.DIZ, VENDINFO.DOC
  204. Information files for shareware distributors and online 
  205. services.  These explain distribution rights and allowable 
  206. methods.
  207.  
  208. Files installed by running IVSETUP.EXE:
  209.  
  210. Main Program directory files IMGV32.EXE, IMGV32.HLP, IMGV32.CNT 
  211. README.TXT, UNINSTAL.EXE, INSTALL.LOG.

  213. Windows\System directory files
  214. IK32.OCX, MSGHOO32.OCX, MSVCRT40.DLL, OLEPRO32.DLL

  216. Registered users will have one additional file: IV32_REG.KEY.  
  217. This file must be in your ImgV32 directory, and will keep the 
  218. startup shareware screen from appearing.  If you upgrade to a 
  219. new version of ImgViewer/32, do not delete this file - it will work 
  220. with all future versions.
  221.  
  222. Files created by ImgViewer/32:
  223.  
  224. ImgViewer/32 creates some temporary files with .TMP 
  225. extensions in the directory pointed to by your TEMP variable.  
  226. If there is no TEMP variable the files will be in the ImgV32 
  227. directory.  Under normal use, the program will clean these up 
  228. when it exits.  If the program crashes it can leave remnant .TMP 
  229. files which should be removed manually as is true of all remnant 
  230. temporary files.

  232. Uninstalling ImgViewer/32:
  233.  
  234. If the UNINSTAL.EXE program and INSTALL.LOG file have been left 
  235. intact in the ImgV32 directory, running the program will remove all 
  236. files that were installed with ImgViewer/32. If the UNINSTAL program 
  237. has been removed, use the file list above to determine which files 
  238. to remove.

  240. VI.  Troubleshooting.
  241.  
  242. If you have any problems with ImgViewer/32, please contact the 
  243. author, even if you are not a registered user.  A fix may be 
  244. available, or you may help the program become better by your 
  245. report.  Be as clear and concise as possible in describing problems.

  247. VII. Obtaining images.
  248.  
  249. If you regularly use Computer BBS systems or online sources such as 
  250. Compuserve, America Online, or the Internet, you will find a wealth 
  251. of images that can be downloaded.  These images are usually in the 
  252. .GIF or .JPG formats to reduce download time.
  253.  
  254. The author is maintaining a small collection of his scans of his own 
  255. photos and those of users where permission has been granted.  It is 
  256. available by FTP from redshift.com/arcatpet/wwplus/images Files are in 
  257. .JPG format.  Thumbnails are available at the website

  260. You may send two pictures or 35mm slides with your 
  261. registration, for free scanning.  The originals will be 
  262. returned.  Additional scanning is available; contact the author 
  263. for details.

  265. VIII.  Getting future Upgrades.
  266.  
  267. When you order ImgViewer/32 from the author, you will receive a copy 
  268. of the latest version and an ownership key that permanently enables 
  269. the program.  That key file will work with future versions of the 
  270. program, so no upgrade fee will be required, but you will need 
  271. to find and download those versions as they occur.

  279. author's forum.  Current versions will be in the library of 
  280. that forum.

  282. On Compuserve, recent versions can be found in several forums, 
  283. including WINAV, GRAPHSUP, and PHOTOFORUM.

  285. The author does not maintain a presence on other online 
  286. services such as MSN and Prodigy, but recent copies are still 
  287. usually found there.

  289. Registered users who do not have online access may get a disk copy 
  290. from the author for a fee of $5 ($7 non-US).  Send a short note 
  291. indicating your registered status and requesting the latest copy.  
  292. Please use the same name under which you ordered originally.

  294. IX.  Purchase and Distribution.
  295.  
  296. ImgViewer/32 is shareware.  Free use is extended to any user 
  297. for an evaluation period of 30 days.  For use to be continued, 
  298. the program must be registered with the author.  Price is $25.00.  
  299. California residents please add $1.81 sales tax, and non-US 
  300. buyers should include $2.00 for airmail shipping.  All 
  301. funds should be drawn on a US Dollar account. A convenient form 
  302. for ordering is included in the Help file (and may be 
  303. printed from there).

  305. As a purchase incentive, the author will provide on request two 
  306. free scanned images from your original prints or slides, when sent 
  307. with the order.

  309. Commercial use:  ImgViewer/32 may be used commercially, as long as there is 
  310. a registered copy for each computer/terminal that is using it.  
  311. Bulk licensing is available.
  312.  
  313. You may freely distribute ImgViewer/32 as long as no fees are charged 
  314. for the program, and all necessary files are included.  Commercial 
  315. Shareware vendors should read the included VENDINFO.DIZ file for 
  316. details. If you are a registered user, do not distribute the file 
  317. IV32_REG.KEY, which identifies you as the user (This identification 
  318. shows up in the "About" box).
