  1. IMAGES CONTROL INTRODUCTION
  2. The indispensable image/document management tools.
  3.  
  4.  
  5. FEATURES
  6. --------
  7. * Stores images/documents in electronic albums/folders.
  8. * Attaches annotation to images/documents.
  9. * Imports images from TWAIN scanners, digital cameras, etc.
  10. * Performs slide shows with background music, transitional effects.
  11. * Slide show invokable from the Windows' Screen Saver.
  12. * Prints hardcopy of images to any Windows-supported printer.
  13. * Acts as a grayscale or color photocopier.

  15. Images Control provides indexed and searchable storage structures to 
  16. help you organize all of your electronic and paper-based data.
  17.  
  18. The software lets you automatically file, intelligently organize, 
  19. visually locate, and instantly retrieve all your pictures or documents 
  20. on-line.  Images Control sorts, categorizes your images (family 
  21. pictures,  documents, etc.) into groups called "albums" or "folders" 
  22. for fast  retrieval.  Images added to these albums are shrunk to small 
  23. thumbnail  sizes, indexed, and stored as a single file on your hard disk.

  25. The thumbnail images stored in the album files are not the actual of the 
  26. images.  These album files (.ALB) only store the scale-down version of 
  27. these images.  The actual path/file name of the images, their image 
  28. properties, and any text associated with them are stored in another 
  29. database.  This database uses the Microsoft Access Jet engine 2.0 and 
  30. has the same file name with the album file with the extension .MDB.

  32. Photo albums created by Images Control can be used in slideshow screen 
  33. savers.    From the Windows Control panel, simply choose Images Control as
  34. your screen saver and select your favorite album for the slideshow.
  35.  
  36. In addition to the above functions, Images Control is also a powerful 
  37. image processing tools able to satisfy the needs of both inexperienced 
  38. and advanced users.  Images Control image processing functions were
  39. written using the leading LEADTOOLS image processing toolkit. Besides
  40. the opportunity of managing a  number of different image formats,
  41. including the industry standard JPEG, PNG, PhotoShop PSD, TIFF, WinFAX,
  42. and Kodak PhotoCD, Images Control also offers a wide choice of advanced
  43. processing tools. The software supports any kind of image format up to
  44. 24 bpp full color images, 8 bpp grayscale, 256 colors.  Images Control
  45. can perform: Crop, Flip, Mirror, Rotate, Shear, Resize, Posterize,
  46. Mosaic, Average, Median, Sharpen, Add noise, Emboss, Underlay Edge
  47. enhance, Gradian edge enhance, Laplacian edge enhance, Sobel filter,
  48. Prewitt filter, Shift and difference filter, Line segment filter,
  49. Binary filters, Erosion filter, Dilation filter, Invert, Brightness,
  50. Contrast, Histogram contrast, Hue, Saturation, Histogram equalize,
  51. Stretch intensity, Gamma correctIntensity detect, Flood Fill, and
  52. Colors Separation

  54. Images Control consists of 5 main functions:
  55.  
  56. 1) Image Browser that's capable of viewing more than 35 image formats.
  57. 2) Creates & displays photo albums.
  58. 3) Creates custom screen savers using your favorite photos.
  59. 4) Performs image format conversion & Image processing/enhancement.
  60. 5) Imports images from TWAIN scanners, digital cameras, frame grabbers, etc.

  62. HARDWARE/SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

  65. Hardware Requirements:
  66.  
  67. * Windows-based PCs (386 or better).
  68. * Standard VGA (or Windows-accelerated card).
  69. * A mouse or trackball.
  70. * TWAIN-compliant scanners or digital cameras (optional).
  71. * Windows supported-printers (optional).
  72. * Sound blaster card or compatible (optional).

  74. Software Requirements:
  75.  
  76. * Microsoft Windows 3.1/3.11/95/NT workstation.
  77.  
  78. Images Control was designed and tested under Microsoft Windows 3.1 on
  79. an ISA 486DX33-based computer with 8 MB of RAM, a mouse/trackball, and
  80. a 1MB ISA Diamond Stealth 24 graphic board under the following video
  81. modes: 640x480x16,640x480x256, 640x480x65536, 800x600x256,
  82. 800x600x65536, 1024x768x16, and 1024x768x256.

  84. Images Control was also tested under Windows 95 on a 100 MHz PCI
  85. Pentium-based computer with 16 MB of RAM, a 150mhz PCI Pentium-based
  86. computer with 32 MB of RAM, and a 2 MB PCI Diamond Stealth VRAM
  87. (S3-968.) under the above resolutions and color depths.

  89. Images Control has not been tested in other environments because I do
  90. not have all the time and resources in this rapidly changing computer
  91. world.

  94. SCANNING SERVICE
  95. ----------------
  96. For those of you who don't have access to a scanner, I offer to scan 
  97. all your photos for $2 a piece plus S&H.  You mail me your pictures and 
  98. choose the format (I recommend JPEG for picture quality and compression 
  99. ratio,) I'll mail you back the scanned images on 3.5" disks.

  102. SUPPORTED IMAGE FILE FORMATS
  103. ----------------------------
  104. Images Control was developed using LEAD Technologies LEADTOOLS VBX 
  105. Professional.  Below is the list of image file formats which Images 
  106. Control supports:
  107.  
  108. AVI    Microsoft Audio/Video Interleave (only in slide show playback).
  109.  
  110. LEAD.   This is the LEAD CMP compressed format for grayscale and color 
  111.     images.
  112.  
  113. JFIF.   This is a JPEG File Interchange Format with full color spacing 
  114.     (YUV 4:4:4).
  115.  
  116. LEAD1JFIF.              
  117.     This is a JPEG File Interchange Format with YUV 4:1:1 color 
  118.     spacing, to produce a smaller JFIF file.      
  119.  
  120. LEAD2JFIF.              
  121.     This is a JPEG File Interchange Format with YUV 4:2:2 color 
  122.     spacing, to produce the smallest JFIF file.
  123.  
  124. JTIF.   This is a JPEG Tagged Interchange Format with full color spacing 
  125.     (YUV 4:4:4).

  127. LEAD1JTIF.              
  128.     This is a JPEG Tagged Interchange Format with YUV 4:1:1 color 
  129.     spacing, to produce a smaller JTIF file.
  130.  
  131. LEAD2JTIF.              
  132.     This is a JPEG Tagged Interchange Format with YUV 4:2:2 color 
  133.     spacing, to produce the smallest JTIF file.
  134.  
  135. TIFF.   This is a tag-based file format designed to promote universal 
  136.     interchanges of digital image data. Because TIFF files do not 
  137.     have a single way to store image data, there are many versions 
  138.     of TIFF. Images Control supports the most common TIFF formats.
  139.  
  140. MPT.    This is a multipage TIFF format that enables a file to contain 
  141.     more than one image. It is handled the same as a regular TIFF 
  142.     file, except for the multipage feature.
  143.  
  144. TIFF LZW.               
  145.     These files use the Tagged Image File Format with LZW compression.
  146.  
  147. TIFF CCITT.             
  148.     These are compressed TIFF files that are commonly used for FAX 
  149.     transmission and document imaging.
  150.  
  151. TIFF CCITT Group 3.     
  152.     These are TIFF CCITT files in a format that is more advanced 
  153.     and more compressed than TIFF CCITT. Images Control supports 
  154.     both 1-dimension and 2-dimension variations of this format.
  155.  
  156. TIFF CCITT Group 4.     
  157.     These are TIFF CCITT files in a format that is more advanced 
  158.     and more compressed than TIFF CCITT Group 3.
  159.  
  160. IOCA (ICA).             
  161.     This is the Image Object Content Architecture developed by IBM. 
  162.     Images Control supports these files in an MO:DCA wrapper with 
  163.     embedded 1-bit CCITT Group 3 or Group 4 images.
  164.  
  165. WinFax Group 3.         
  166.     This is a FAX format created by Delrina for Group 3 support.
  167.  
  168. WinFax Group 4.         
  169.     This is a FAX format created by Delrina for Group 4 support.
  170.  
  171. FAX Group 3.            
  172.     This is a raw FAX format (without a header) for Group 3 support. 
  173.     Images Control supports both 1-dimension and 2-dimension 
  174.     variations of this format.
  175.  
  176. FAX Group 4.            
  177.     This is a raw FAX format (without a header) for Group 4 support.
  178.  
  179. Truevision TGA (TARGA). 
  180.     This is a file format created by Truevision Inc. Images Control 
  181.     supports all uncompressed and RLE compressed TGA file formats.
  182.  
  183. PNG (Portable Network Graphics). 
  184.     This is a replacement for the GIF format. It is a full-featured 
  185.     (non-LZW) compressed format intended for widespread use without 
  186.     legal restraints.
  187.  
  188. Photoshop 3.0 (PSD). 
  189.     This is the format produced by the Adobe Photoshop graphics 
  190.     editor.
  191.  
  192. Windows Bitmap (BMP). 
  193.     This is a file format created by Microsoft. Some BMP images are 
  194.     compressed with an RLE type compression.
  195.  
  196. Windows Metafile (WMF). 
  197.     These files are not bitmap based images. A Windows metafile 
  198.     consists of a collection of device independent functions that 
  199.     represents an image. When a program loads a metafile, these 
  200.     functions are executed to obtain the image.
  201.  
  202. PCX.    This is a file format created by ZSoft. This format compresses 
  203.     its image data with the RLE type compression.
  204.  
  205. DCX.    This is a multipage PCX format that enables a file to contain 
  206.     more than one image. It is handled the same as a regular PCX 
  207.     file, except for the multipage feature.
  208.  
  209. PostScript Raster (Encapsulated PostScript). 
  210.     These files are used primarily on PostScript printers. These 
  211.     printers usually offer more variety of fonts and higher 
  212.     resolution than standard laser printers. EPS files will work on 
  213.     any PostScript compatible printer and any end user application 
  214.     that supports placement of EPS files in its work space.
  215.  
  216. OS/2 Bitmap (OS/2 BMP). 
  217.     These are files created on an OS/2 operating system. Images 
  218.     Control supports both 1.x and 2.x formats.
  219.  
  220. CALS Raster. 
  221.     These are 1-bit CCITT Group 4 CALS raster files. CALS is a U.S. 
  222.     government standard.
  223.  
  224. MacPaint (MAC). 
  225.     These Macintosh Paint files are commonly used for monochrome 
  226.     clip art.
  227.  
  228. GEM Image (IMG). 
  229.     These files are native to the Graphical Environment Manager 
  230.     developed by Digital Research.
  231.  
  232. Microsoft Paint (MSP). 
  233.     These files from early versions of Windows are used for black-
  234.     and-white drawings and clip art.
  235.  
  236. WordPerfect (WPG). 
  237.     These are WordPerfect raster files. 
  238.  
  239. SUN Raster (RAS). 
  240.     These files are native to Sun UNIX platforms.
  241.  
  242. Macintosh Pict (PCT). 
  243.     These files, produced using Macintosh QuickDraw, are used in 
  244.     desktop publishing and imaging applications.
  245.  
  246. LEAD 1BIT. 
  247.     These are 1-bit LEAD compressed files.
  248.  
  249. PCD.    
  250.     These are Kodak PhotoCD files. These read-only files can 
  251.     contain multiple resolutions. You can specify which of the 
  252.     resolutions to read.
  253.  
  254. NOTE: Because of the battle between Unisys and many software 
  255. developers over the GIF format royalty fees, Images Control will not 
  256. support GIF. Instead, Images Control supports a new rising star that's 
  257. supposed to be a much better replacement for GIF called PNG (Portable 
  258. Network Graphics). CompuServe has adopted PNG and has been shifting 
  259. their support for GIF to PNG.

  262. REGISTRATION
  263. ------------
  264. The registration fee is $25 for the photo album & image enhancement/
  265. processing modules.  Optional scanner input is available for an 
  266. additional $14.  As of this writing, I only accept money orders, 
  267. cashiers checks, bank checks, or personal checks.  Please fill in the 
  268. registration form in the REGISTER.TXT file and mail it along with your 
  269. payment to:

  276. you must send cash, please also include a written order so I can keep

  279. For quick activation, registered users will receive a temporary license 
  280. file through internet e-mail (uuencoded.)  The license file will 
  281. recognize you as a registered user and allow you full access to all 
  282. Images Control features.  Your permanent license file registered in 
  283. your name (or your company name) and the latest version of Images 
  284. Control will be in the mail the next business day.

  286. Those of you have access to CompuServe, you can register Images Control 
  287. on line directly with CompuServe and receive the registered version 
  288. within 24 hours.  My CompuServe Author Registration ID is 7437.  Images

  297. A site license is required by a corporation, company, educational 
  298. institution, or governmental agency for use of Images Control software 
  299. on the total number of computers that will use the software.
