Questions & Answers : Trouble-Shooting Grunt!
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
This section lists some of the most commonly asked questions concerning
the operation and maintenance of Grunt. If you have any other questions
regarding Grunt, run the program HELP and read the AUTHOR FEEDBACK
section. That section will explain how to get ahold of the author.
<RESET>
Q:How can I get GRUNT to run without a BBS?
A:Use the LOCAL.BAT and LOCAL.SYS. Also, run HELP.EXE and read the
section on "Running Grunt in Local Mode".
<RESET>
Q:I am playing in Local Mode but died. How can I reset my character?
A:Run the CLEANUP.EXE program to reset your userfile and re-stock the
dungeon. It will clean all items up that you need.
<RESET>
Q:Grunt will not let any players in! It keeps bringing up the message
"NOTICE: GRUNT! is being shut down for maintenance! It will come back
up in about 1 minute. Please try again in a few moments." How can I
get Grunt to work again?
A:CLEANUP creates a file in the set DUNGEON directory (as defined in the
"GRUNT.CFG" file as to where your DUNGEON directory is) called
"SHUTDOWN.NOW". Any node running Grunt will automatically shut down
and exit to DOS if it finds this file. This does not affect Novell,
Lantastic, Windows, or other Networks you may be running, it simply
instructs Grunt to stop running, save all information, and exit out to
DOS. If you are playing on a Network such as Novell or Lantastic, you
will be returned to DOS. If you have Grunt configured on a BBS system,
it will return to DOS, and continue the execution of your batch file,
hense returning your user to your BBS Software.
The fix is to try running CLEANUP.EXE again. If it crashes due to a
bad directory or corrupt information, it may not erase the file
"SHUTDOWN.NOW".
FIX: Erase the file "SHUTDOWN.NOW" found in your DUNGEON directory.
