  10. On unzipping this package you will find several files for your
  11. enjoyment in flying the Dakota in FS5.  They are as follows : 
  12.  
  13. DC3Float 0 to 9 'af' files= Put in 'Texture' (fltsim5 sub dir)
  14. DC3Float.Air file= Put in 'Pilots' (fltsim5 sub dir)

  18. DC3Air.zip (unzip to find DC3Float.Air= an alternative Air file)
  19. This will erase the prop disks if you so prefer.
  20.  
  21. DC3LAKE.stn file= Put into 'Pilots' (fltsim5 sub dir)
  22. for a pre-set situation.
  23. This of course is optional but it puts you on Lake Michigan
  24. with the Chicago skyline behind you (just off Meigs Airfield)
  25. Go into 'Situation' (FS5) and you will find it once installed.
  26. Whether you use the default panel or any add-on panel, this
  27. will still work.

  29. TREVDC3.pcx file= A photo of this aircraft and the situation
  30. it is in (mentioned above).

  32. DC3s.pcx file= Another photo of my favourite Dakota (since I,m 
  33. frequently being asked) Although this file here ties with it.

  35. Prop.wav file= First, Re-name your original Prop.wav to 
  36. anything you want, found in= 'Sound' (fltsim5 sub dir)
  37. Then install the Prop.wav sound provided here in the same
  38. place. 
  39. This again is optional but it is the best Pratt+Whitney DC-3

  44. Then install the Screetch.wav sound provided here in the same
  45. place.
  46. This sound I created as a variation of the default 'Splash'
  47. sound.
  48. It will give the effect of surfing on the water.

  62. Some people experience sound problems when they have bigger 
  63. sound files in there 'Sound' (Fltsim5 sub dir). It may be due
  64. to a memory problem in FS5. Therefore I suggest that if you do
  65. experience difficulties check the total number of KB's in that
  66. sub-dir (Sounds) and Try not to have it exceed 280KB. I myself
  67. have alot of sound files and I usually keep any I'm not using
  68. in a temporary dir away from FS5.
  69. ....It's a good idea to click on 'Ignore crash' setting in FS5.
  70. Only because its stops any unrealistic crashes on the water
  71. with the Floatplane. FS5 was not set up as well as FS4 was 
  72. regarding Floatplane flying and I hope this will change for 
  73. when Microsoft release FS6.
  74.    This aircraft acts and behaves like a Floatplane should,
  75. for example it needs a longer distance to take off from the 
  76. water because of added weight and more drag. It will rotate at 
  77. around 100 knots with flaps up and full throttle.
  78. For landing come in straight and level at around 80 knots with 
  79. full flaps and she will be fine. You will find that it Taxis
  80. nicely for a DC-3 and the view is also a little better as the
  81. tail is not dragging but straight and level. (Note all the 
  82. wheels and original gear struts have been re-moved as was done
  83. for the real one). The gear is obviously non-retractable and so
  84. the strobe lights work when flaps are down rather than gear 
  85. down. It flies a little slower than your normal DC-3/C-47 but
  86. thats how it is with Floatplanes.
  87. To stop the aircraft you can use the brakes if you want 
  88. although in real life Floatplanes coasted to a stop as they 
  89. had no brakes as such.  But there there if you want them.
  90. Now.....load it up and experience another side of FS5 in this
  91. delightful and very rare aircraft.  I've spoken to many in the
  92. forum who have discovered places that they thought didnt exist
  93. in FS5. Nice too for those of you who have the PCW Resort from
  94. SIMGAM Forum.

  101.          Only one C-47 with floats was built by Douglas. It was
  102. a special order from the US Army during WW2. The Model was
  103. XC-47DL. The X designated it was a special procurement and the
  104. DL specified that it was built at the Douglas Long Beach Plant.
  105. No commercial version of the DC-3 on Floats was ever built by
  106. Douglas. That is not to say that DC-3's or C-47's were ever
  107. converted by other Aviation Companies. The original was sold
  108. as Army surplus. EDO Corporation made the floats and reportedly
  109. made 150 pairs of Floats. The majority of these were never
  110. used. The version supplied here is of AIr Alaska in a fictional
  111. livery. I painted it in this scheme only because several people
  112. who helped on the research of this rare version of Dakota would
  113. seem to recall one being flown by Air Alaska as a Charter 
  114. service. I also included Cabin window curtains, Engine detail,
  115. and some 3D gradient effects. 
  116.       The serial number of this version is borrowed...... as
  117. it is from a Graveyard C-47/DC-3 hulk in some baron place here 
  118. in the U.S. and so it seemed fitting to choose that if only to
  119. have the poor thing flying again.

  126. times seemed to contradict other research books.

  154. My sincere Thanks go to Barry Blaisdell who did the MAGNIFCENT
  155. Float conversion. He had to work from my child-like diagrams
  156. but did an excellent job. He did everything I asked for
  157. including pcx's of the floats within FSFS, surfaces for 3D 
  158. effects and fulfilled alot of my requests throughout the 
  159. project. (As well as sending a ton of E-Mails to + fro).
