  75. WELCOME TO DYNAMIC GIN!
  76.  
  77. Dynamic Gin (TM) is a computer version of the classic Gin Rummy card
  78. game. The Dynamic Gin display shows cards for your hand, an opponent's
  79. hand, a discard pile, and a stock (unused portion of the deck) much
  80. like you would see them in a real Gin Rummy card game. There is also a
  81. rectangle where you deposit your final discard when you are ready to
  82. end a hand (knock).

  84. Dynamic Gin is easy to play. You simply use the mouse to select and
  85. drag cards between the stock or discard piles and your own hand or to
  86. rearrange cards in your hand. The status bar at the bottom of the
  87. Dynamic Gin window indicates whose turn it is and what play options are
  88. available.

  90. If you've never played Gin Rummy, it's not hard to learn. The Dynamic
  91. Gin on-line help contains descriptions of the object of the game,
  92. rules, terminology, and scoring. (Remember that in Help, you can click
  93. on any highlighted (colored, underlined) text at any time to jump to
  94. that topic.) You can probably also figure out how to play without using
  95. Help if you watch the instructions on the Dynamic Gin status bar.

  97. There are a number of different variations of Gin Rummy. The variation
  98. many people know is Simple Gin. Dynamic Gin includes two other
  99. variations: Standard Gin and Oklahoma Gin. Simple Gin is probably the
  100. easiest variation to learn, but we recommend you try all the
  101. variations.
  102.  
  103. Many people who play Simple Gin ignore the normal rules about passing
  104. at the beginning of a hand. If you're not familiar with passing, pay
  105. close attention to the Dynamic Gin status bar and/or look at the
  106. discussion of passing in Dynamic Gin Help.

  123. ===== Installation =====================================

  125. To install Dynamic Gin on your computer:
  126.  
  127.     1.  First locate the Dynamic Gin installation program DGSETUP.EXE.
  128.         If you are installing from a CyberSym Technologies installation
  129.         disk, make sure the disk is inserted in your disk drive. If you
  130.         have obtained the Dynamic Gin installation package from some
  131.         other source (e.g. a shareware CD-ROM or an online forum), you
  132.         may need to decompress the package with a decompression utility
  133.         before you find DGSETUP.EXE.
  134.     2.  From the Windows 95 Start Menu, select Run.
  135.     3.  Type the full path for the DGSETUP.EXE file. (If you are
  136.         installing from an installation disk, this is A:\DGSETUP.EXE
  137.         where A is the letter of your disk drive).
  138.     4.  Choose OK.
  139.     5.  Follow the instructions on the screen.
  140.  
  141. The installation program will let you choose the location where you
  142. want Dynamic Gin on your hard drive. The install program searches for
  143. any previous installation of Dynamic Gin. If you have a previous
  144. installation (either 16-bit or 32-bit) we recommend you install
  145. Dynamic Gin 32-bit Edition into the same location as the previous
  146. installation. This way you will retain any player configurations you
  147. might have established under the previous installation (see
  148. "Configuring Dynamic Gin for More than One User"). If you elect to
  149. install Dynamic Gin 32-bit Edition into the same location as a previous
  150. installation of Dynamic Gin 16-bit Edition, the install program will
  151. next ask if you want to remove the 16-bit edition.  Under most
  152. circumstances, it is best to remove the 16-bit edition.  However, if
  153. you regularly run Windows 3.1 or Windows NT in addition to Windows 95
  154. on your computer, you might want to keep the 16-bit edition of Dynamic
  155. Gin to run under Windows 3.1 or NT.
  156.  
  157. Once you have completed the installation, you do not need to keep the
  158. DGSETUP.EXE installation program on your hard disk. It is however a
  159. good idea to keep a backup floppy disk copy of the Dynamic Gin
  160. installation package (or the original installation disk), including
  161. DGSETUP.EXE.
  162.  
  163. There are a couple of other things to note about the installation:
  164.  
  165. a.  Folders/sub-folders created during installation do not appear in
  166.     the Windows Explorer until you select the View, Refresh option in
  167.     the Explorer.
  168.  
  169. b.  If you so choose, the installation program creates a program folder
  170.     (of whatever name you choose) containing several icons. This folder
  171.     appears wherever you designate on the Start menu. However, in
  172.     Windows 95, program folders don't automatically stay on your
  173.     desktop. If you want the Dynamic Gin folder to always appear on
  174.     your desktop (as opposed to just on the Start menu), follow these
  175.     instructions:
  176.  
  177.     --In the Explorer, find the folder (Dynamic Gin or whatever name
  178.       you chose during installation) which is typically located inside
  179.       the Programs folder inside the Start Menu folder inside the
  180.       Windows folder.
  181.  
  182.     --Using the mouse secondary (right) button, drag this Dynamic
  183.       Gin folder to your desktop.
  184.  
  185.     --Release the folder and select Create Shortcut(s) Here on the
  186.       popup menu that appears.
  187.  
  188.     --When the folder appears on your desktop, select the title
  189.       underneath, and edit the text title to be whatever you want.
  190.  
  191. During the installation process, the install program creates a file
  192. called INSTALL.LOG in the Dynamic Gin main directory. DO NOT move,
  193. edit, or delete this file if you ever intend to upgrade or uninstall
  194. Dynamic Gin.
  195.  
  196. When you first start Dynamic Gin after installation, under a few
  197. conditions, you may get a warning message about a "Dynamic Gin
  198. Backdrop Scenery Error". If so, Dynamic Gin runs with a default
  199. background after this message appears. In this case, you should either
  200. select Options, Scenery to load a backdrop scenery image, or you can
  201. check the Disable Scenery option under Options, Preferences to keep
  202. scenery off and disable this message in future sessions.
