  71. This package contains the CONTACT PLUS (R) PERSONAL FOR WINDOWS SYSTEM by
  72. CONTACT PLUS CORPORATION. This document contains only a brief description
  73. along with instructions for its installation.  Detailed documentation is
  74. included in the package, but it is in archived form, and is more easily
  75. read after installation.

  77. If you've been trying to keep track of your clients using a conventional
  78. phone book, rolodex or other simple name and address book program then
  79. Contact Plus Personal for Windows is for you.  Contact Plus Personal
  80. helps you keep your contacts organized into multiple databases.  You may
  81. have a personal database of your softball team, a database of interested
  82. clients for your business, a database of the members of the choir and
  83. want to keep all of this information in one standard place.

  85. Contact Plus for Windows provides an intuitive easy to use way of keep
  86. track of your contacts, letters to each contact, notes, phone calls,
  87. meetings, to-dos, etc.

  101. evaluation version includes all features of the program, and is not
  102. crippled in any way.  You may use it for up to 30 days without charge. If

  105. paid to others (disk vendors, dealers, etc.) to obtain this evaluation

  125. ===== Installation =====================================

  127. The installation procedure for Contact Plus Personal for Windows
  128. is quite simple.  The package includes a program, "SETUP.EXE", which
  129. automates the entire process.  You will need about 7 megabytes of
  130. available disk space on the hard drive on which you plan to install
  131. Contact Plus for Windows.
  132.  
  133. The exact steps you need to take will depend on how you received
  134. Contact Plus Personal for Windows.
  135.  
  136. INSTALLING FROM DISKETTES
  137.  
  138. To install from diskette(s), you need to perform the following steps.
  139.  
  140.    o  Place the distribution diskette "Disk 1" in the
  141.       appropriate diskette drive.
  142.  
  143.    o  Execute the "SETUP.EXE" program on the distribution diskette.
  144.       For example, if the distribution diskette is on drive A: from
  145.       Program Manager run the command: "A:SETUP".
  146.  
  147.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program.
  148.       You will have a chance to approve installation before any changes
  149.       are actually made to the contents of your hard drive.  The
  150.       program will ask you for a destination directory, and will copy
  151.       the files to that directory.  If you received the product
  152.       on more than one diskette, you will need to insert subsequent
  153.       diskettes when asked to do so.

  156. INSTALLING FROM A HARD DRIVE
  157.  
  158. If you downloaded Contact Plus Personal for Windows from a BBS (or
  159. received it in the form of archive files from some other source), you
  160. will need to perform the following steps.
  161.  
  162.    o  Extract the contents of the archive file(s) in a temporary
  163.       directory on your hard drive.  The procedure for doing this
  164.       varies, depending on the form in which you received the package.
  165.       In all likelihood, the fact that you are reading this text means
  166.       that you already have the necessary tools and knowledge to
  167.       perform this step.  If not, you should be able to obtain
  168.       directions for this from the same source from which you received
  169.       the package.

  171.    o  Execute the "SETUP.EXE" program which you have extracted.  For
  172.       example, if the temporary directory into which you have extracted
  173.       the <product> package is C:\TEMPDIR, you would execute the
  174.       command, "c:\tempdir\SETUP".

  176.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program.
  177.       You will have a chance to approve installation before any changes
  178.       are actually made to the contents of your hard drive.  The
  179.       program will ask you for a destination directory, and will copy
  180.       the product files to that directory.  If you so direct it, the
  181.       installation program will install executable programs and
  182.       documentation in other directories of your choice.

  184. When you're satisfied that the installation was successful, you should
  185. delete the temporary directory FROM which you installed the product
  186. (C:\TEMPDIR, in the above discussion), including all its contents.

  189. DATABASE ENGINE INSTALLATION
  190.  
  191. Contact Plus for Windows uses the Borland Database Engine.  This is a
  192. powerful database engine that can be used by other applications.  It
  193. should be installed in your C: drive as Borland recommends.  The
  194. database engine consumes about 3.5 Megabytes and will by default be
  195. installed in an C:\IDAPI directory.
  196.  
  197. The database engine is automatically installed when SETUP is run.  Do
  198. not delete the database engine since it is necessary to run Contact Plus
  199. Personal successfully.

  201. UNINSTALLATION
  202.  
  203. An uninstallation program is included which will clean up all files and
  204. restore your system back to its original state before installation.
  205.  
  206. The uninstallation program will also uninstall the Borland Database
  207. Engine.
  208.  
  209. If you are running Windows '95 then you can instead uninstall Contact
  210. Plus Personal for Windows using the Add/Remove Programs available under
  211. the Control Panel Group.

  215. Once you've complete the installation, you should consult the help files
  216. and coaches which have been installed.

  218. If you decide that Contact Plus Personal is not for you there is an
  219. automatic uninstall procedure which will remove all installed files
  220. restoring your system to it's state before the install.
