  6.                            **** INTRODUCTION ****

  8.    This is the information & registration file on the program CJPOS.  
  9.    CJPOS was created by Christopher J. Ryba to provide an EXTREMELY user 
  10.    friendly point-of-sale program for my friend Christopher Kilcoyne ; 
  11.    owner of Brookpark Certified Automotive Service in Parma, Ohio. He 
  12.    wanted a program to print receipts and save estimates at his shop. 
  13.    What evolved from simple beginnings in August of 1992 is rather complete 
  14.    package for any small business who can dedicate a CGA or VGA IBM 
  15.    compatible computer with DOS 3.3 or higher to point of sale operation.  
  16.    Default printer drivers include the EPSON character set and the HP 
  17.    command set. These printers have been tested. A printer driver creator is 
  18.    available to registered users. Print receipts and reports from any port 
  19.    - LPT1 thru LPT4; COM1 thru COM4.  
  20.    
  21.    Additional default printers are being added to PRINTERS.DRV in future 
  22.    editions to assure compatiblity.

  32.    1.) Unzip all files & start program. 
  33.       
  34.    2.) Type CJPOS to start. Employee #1 is the default employee.
  35.        Put in your company specific information using 'System Setup. (Main)

  39.                  **********  HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS  **********
  40.  
  41.    *  The program needs an MINIMUM of 3 Meg hard disk space to run.  
  42.    Naturally as more receipts are written, the program will grow 
  43.    over 3 Meg in size ( I hope your business is selling something ! ).
  44.    At BCAS Automotive one full year required 4 Meg of HD space for his
  45.    Fiscal 1994.
  46.  
  47.    *  640 K of RAM is required. 520 K free RAM when starting program is
  48.       recommended. The FILES= in your CONFIG.SYS should be at least 30.
  49.    *  DOS 3.30 or higher for the operating system.
  50.    *  80286 or later micropressor.
  51.    *  Will run in a DOS window in Windows (R) without any problems.
  52.  
  53.    If you have received the automotive demo version a blank set of 
  54.    databases can be obtained if you would like to start building your
  55.    data into the system.

  61.    ***************************** OPERATION ********************************
  62.    
  63.    This page is a quick rundown of operation. See MANUAL.TXT for
  64.    more information.
  65.  
  66.    The list box on the left contains different departments. For BCAS 
  67.    of Parma these departments are Services , Exhaust, Emmisions, Brakes, 
  68.    Shocks & Struts, Springs, and so on till Miscellaneous. After 
  69.    selecting one of these a window pops up with various categories.  
  70.    For example, select the Exhaust Department with parts such as 
  71.    mufflers, pipes, hangers, clamps, etc.  Using the cursor keys moves 
  72.    a selection box to a part category.  Say we chose Mufflers, now
  73.    striking the Enter key replaces the first window with a second window 
  74.    listing the part numbers under that category. For our example,
  75.    we choose #1811G of Mufflers by using the cursor keys again to move
  76.    the selection box. This exact part number for Mufflers has the price 
  77.    to go with it. Finally the quantity is prompted at the bottom of the 
  78.    window; the default value is 1. If the SKU Number representing the 
  79.    part is known that SKU can be scanned using barcodes or typed. To switch 
  80.    to that mode of entry select "Toggle SKU / Menu Entry" from the 'Main'
  81.    menu.

  83.    For the Services department, canned descriptions of labor are 
  84.    loaded in with their hour quantity.  These descriptions can be added 
  85.    to. The appropiate labor rate is then selected. The Labor/Services 
  86.    department is not required to be part of the system however.
  87.  
  88.    The beauty of CJPOS is that it is a "build on the fly" program in 
  89.    which a user can add part, part number, & labor descriptions as 
  90.    they're needed.  
  91.    
  92.    When a receipt is ready, it can be saved as an estimate, or finalized 
  93.    as TENDERING to Cash, Check, Visa/MC, Discover, American Express. More
  94.    tender types are optional. 
  95.       Line items can be deleted or changed if an incorrect entry occured. 
  96.    Customer names & information are prompted before the end of a sale.  
  97.    This information can retrieved if a sale re-occurs to the same customer 
  98.    at a later date by providing several letters of the last name, the last 4
  99.    digits of their phone, or by their customer number. Your present customers 
  100.    can be added if you desire. The 'Customer' screen provides an opurtunity
  101.    to review previous sales history for customers as well.
  102.  
  103.    Back to the main menu, several other choices are presented.  Daily 
  104.    sales (F8) can be viewed.  A daily printout sheet of these items is 
  105.    provided.  Also the products sold for the day, week or any variable 
  106.    period (2 days to ?)  can be tallied, viewed, printed, or output to a 
  107.    ASCII space delimited, tab, or comma delimited text file for a spreedsheet
  108.    program. ( Select export mode in 'System Setup')
  109.  
  110.    Inventory of part numbers is tracked and quantities altered in the 
  111.    Inventory Menu.  A printout of loaded part numbers can done for 
  112.    every department; a cost sum of positive inventory counts is included.
  113.    The program saves all information in an DBF format that can be viewed 
  114.    with a dBASE browse or other capable program (Excel, Quattro). See the
  115.    PACKING.LST for explanation of each file.

  278.     All ASSOCIATION OF SHAREWARE PROFESSIONALS members' shareware products
  279.     include support in the purchase price for a minimum of three months 
  280.     from the date of registration. This support can be by telephone, mail
  281.     or e-mail.  At least 30 minutes free support, without additional cost, 
  282.     is provided during the first three months. If additional support is

  298.                            DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
  299.  
  300.       Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
  301.       before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
  302.       using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
  303.       differ on details -- some request registration while others
  304.       require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
  305.       registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
  306.       using the software to an updated program with printed manual.

  319.       Shareware.

  323.       whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
  324.       fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.

  326.       has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the

  329.       CJPOS is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge
  330.       to the user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with your
  331.       friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of
  332.       another system.  The essence of "user-supported" software is to
  333.       provide personal computer users with quality software without
  334.       high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
  335.       continue to develop new products.  If you find this program
  336.       useful and find that you are using CJPOS and continue to use
  337.       CJPOS after a reasonable trial period, you must make a reg-
  338.       istration payment of $199 to Cuyahoga Computing.  The $ 199
  339.       registration fee will license one copy for use on any one
  340.       computer at any one time.  You must treat this software just like
  341.       a book.  An example is that this software may be used by any
  342.       number of people and may be freely moved from one computer
  343.       location to another, so long as there is no possibility of it
  344.       being used at one location while it's being used at another.
