  1. What is Cruise Mode?
  2.  
  3. Cruise Mode is an option setting within SFTP that allows
  4. the program to perform uploads and downloads  in a separate process.
  5. By placing uploads and downloads in a completely separate process, the
  6. user is able to continue to "Cruise" through directories and ftp sites
  7. without interupting the file transfer process. Also, since the file transfer
  8. function is in a separate process, a kill process function is available to
  9. abort file transfers.

  11. How does Cruise Mode work?

  13. First, you must ensure that the Cruise Mode check box is selected. You then
  14. choose a file to download by double clicking on the file name, or select a file
  15. to upload using the Upload Menu. Entries for these selections are placed in the
  16. Transfer window. You then click the transfer button. At this point, the file
  17. transfer process begins and you are free to roam other directories or sites.

  19. Why is Cruise Mode an option instead of Standard?
  20.  
  21. With Cruise Mode, each time a file download or upload is initiated, the program must
  22. log on to the remote host. This creates a delay in the program which does not exist
  23. when not in Cruise Mode. If you have a slow internet connection, or only want to
  24. download files from a single host, sftp will return the files faster without Cruise
  25. Mode. However, without Cruise Mode, you will not be able to change directories,
  26. view files, or log on to other hosts during the transfer process. The kill function is
  27. only available in Cruise Mode as well. For pure speed, however, you can deselect
  28. the Cruise Mode option.
