Foray PPP Server README.1ST
Product Overview
================
TechSmith's Foray PPP Server is an inexpensive, easy to install,
remote access server software package for TCP/IP and IPX (NetWare)
networks.
* The Foray PPP Server supports remote access workstations
dialing in with Windows 95, Windows NT, Trumpet and various
other PPP clients.
* The Foray PPP Server supports PAP, CHAP and Novell NetWare
authentication.
* The Foray PPP Server enables users to dial in over standard
telephone lines to access the corporate TCP/IP, IPX and
Internet resources.
The Foray PPP Server can be licensed in various configurations,
ranging from 1-32 ports.
Evaluation Copy Restrictions
============================
Your evaluation copy of the Foray PPP Server is restricted to a
single serial port. The server also has a timed performance
inhibiting restriction. After the server has been running for two
hours, it will disconnect the active user and reinitialize itself.
After reinitialization, the baud rate will be restricted to 9600
baud and header compression for IP and IPX traffic will be disabled.
Entry of a TechSmith generated software registration key will
permanently disable these restrictions.
Registration, Product Pricing and Hardware Availability
=======================================================
To register your copy of the Foray PPP Server, please use the
ORDER.TXT file included with this package. It includes pricing
for the 1,2 and 4 port configurations, popular hardware options and
their associated shipping charges. It also includes important
contact information that will expedite your product registration.
For hardware and software pricing and availability on 8 port or
larger configurations, please contact TechSmith.
Getting Started
===============
Before you install the Foray PPP Server hardware or software on
your LAN gateway PC, you will need to establish that you have an
appropriate hardware, system software, and network environment.
* A dedicated 386SX-33 (or faster) computer (for 1 port) or
a dedicated 386DX-40 (or faster) computer (for 2-4 ports)
* 10 MB of free space on your hard disk
* MS-DOS or PC-DOS 5.0 or newer
(Foray PPP Server does not support alternative operating
systems, such as DR-DOS.)
* DOS HIMEM.SYS file or equivalent memory manager installed and
working in your CONFIG.SYS.
* All device drivers removed from the CONFIG.SYS except for memory
managers and Digiboard drivers if a Digiboard is being used.
* A network interface card, to attach the Foray Server to your LAN,
and DOS ODI device driver(MLID).
The MLID (Multiple Link Interface Driver) is a software driver
that is provided by your network interface card manufacturer.
If you are unsure about the presence or role of your MLID,
please consult the materials which were supplied with your
network interface card. (If possible, ensure that the server PC
is working correctly on your network BEFORE you install
Foray PPP Server.)
* A working NET.CFG (configuration) file for you network interface
card. This file is similar to your computer's CONFIG.SYS file.
It contains network configuration information that is read and
acted upon when the system is started. If this file is not
detected during the installation process, one will be created.
* An understanding of your network frametype. Your frametype will
be dependent on the network protocol you are using. Typical
frametypes include: 802.3 for most Novell networks, 802.2 for
Novell 4.x networks and 802.3 for most Microsoft networks.
* A modem for each available Foray Server port.

IP Frame Type................____________________________________
Frame type of TCP/IP network traffic.
** IP Protocol Options **
Server IP Address................._____ . _____ . _____ . _____
The IP address of the server PC. This field is required if you
are using TCP/IP. When using dynamic assignment of IP addresses
there must be enough consecutive addresses available to assign
one to the server and to each port that the server is configured
to support. (i.e., 4-port server requires 5 IP addresses)
Server Subnet Mask................_____ . _____ . _____ . _____
The IP subnet mask. If subnets are not used, enter the
appropriate network mask for the class of IP address you used
for the server's IP address.
Server Default Router............._____ . _____ . _____ . _____
The IP address of the default router on your network. Use
0.0.0.0 if you do not have a router.
Number of IP Header Compression Slots.....(3-16)___[4]
Controls the number of active compression slots, which can range
from 3 to 16. The default [4] should be acceptable in most
cases.
Enable IP Broadcast Routing................(Y/N)___[Y]
Must be on if you are using NetBIOS over IP.
Enable Dynamic IP Addresses................(Y/N)___[Y]
Specifies whether or not the server will supply dynamic IP
addresses to remote workstations configured to request them.
Allow Static Addressing....................(Y/N)___[N]
Determines whether or not remote workstations are allowed to
specify their own IP address. Leaving it at the default [N]
requires that workstations request dynamic IP addresses.
Enable Bootp Proxy.........................(Y/N)___[Y]
Allows the server to supply BootP requests with IP addresses.
Primary DNS Server..................._____ . _____ . _____ . _____
The IP address of the primary Domain Name Server. This
parameter is used to supply dynamic DNS to Windows 95 and
