  7. Thank you for downloading WinDos.  WinDos is a program
  8. that allows you to launch dos applications which do not
  9. run properly under Windows from Windows.
  10.  
  11. The technique is simple.  WinDos closes windows, runs
  12. the dos application, then restarts windows.  The advantage
  13. is a stable, fast dos environment, at the price of the
  14. loss of multitasking capability.  
  15.  
  16. WinDos is ideal for playing games that need speed - you
  17. start the game just like any other dos icon, but windows
  18. is not running in the background as it is in a normal
  19. dos window, or fullscreen.  So all your cpu time goes into
  20. the game, and not into waiting for a task-switch command.

  22. In order to use WinDos place the file windos.exe in your
  23. windows subdirectory, usually c:\windows.  Create a batch
  24. file which starts your dos application and place it somewhere
  25. in the path.  From Windows Program Manager, use 
  26. File|New|Program Item to create an icon for the dos application.
  27. on commandline, type windos, then the batch file for the 
  28. dos application as a parameter to windos, like this:
  29. commandline:  windos mcgee.bat
  30. you can put the Name as the Name of the game, in this case,
  31. Mcgee.

  33. If you run windos with no parameter, it will open a dos
  34. shell.  If you run the LandMark speedcom program in windos
  35. and in normal windows dos, you will see the difference.
