  7. SimMap is not free software.  It is released as shareware, which provides
  8. the opportunity for the program to be evaluated before it is purchased.

  10. We hope that after you try SimMap you will like it and will want to
  11. register.  By doing so you are voting with your pocketbook for us to
  12. continue developing high-quality, Windows shareware.

  18. OVERVIEW
  19. --------
  20. SimMap is a windows program that allows you to edit or create Maxis'
  21. SimCity city map files.  SimMap was designed to look as much like SimCity
  22. for Windows as possible.  SimMap allows you add and/or change any form of
  23. water or trees.  You can also remove anything, including stuff like fire,
  24. floods, fallout, etc.  When you register, you will receive the enhanced
  25. version of SimMap that allows you to add any buildings, parks, roads, and
  26. whatnot.  Check out the help file for more information on this stuff.

  29. INSTALLATION
  30. ------------
  31. To install SimMap, follow these steps:
  32.  
  33. 1. Create a directory on your hard disk for the SimMap files, using the
  34.    DOS CD command or the Windows File Manager.  Example: C:\SIMMAP
  35. 2. Copy all the files from the SimMap distribution disk or the SIMMAP.ZIP
  36.    file into that directory.
  37. 3. Copy the BWCC.DLL file into your main Windows directory.  This file is
  38.    the Borland Custom Control library.  If you already have this file in
  39.    your main Windows directory, you may not need to copy this file as you
  40.    need only one copy of the file for all your programs that may need it.
  41. 4. In the Windows Program Manager, click inside the program group window
  42.    where you want the SimMap icon. Then click the File//New command and
  43.    click OK in the next dialog box.
  44. 5. Type in the information for SimMap in the next dialog box. Include the
  45.    complete path for the program in the Command Line field. Then, click OK.
  46.    The SimMap icon will appear in your selected program group. If you do not
  47.    see it, scroll the group window to find the icon, then move it to a new
  48.    location.

  50. That completes installation of SimMap.

  53. RUNNING
  54. -------
  55. To start SimMap, double-click its icon in the Program Manager. The first
  56. time you run the program, it will create a file in it's directory to save
  57. your settings and preferences.

  60. GETTING HELP
  61. ------------
  62. SimMap offers a help system to answer your questions. To use this system,
  63. give the "SimMap Help" command in the "Help" menu, or press the help icon
  64. (a question mark) at any time.

  69. Support is provided via Compuserve and the U.S. Postal Service.  Only
  70. registered users of SimMap are entitled to support.

  74.    SimMap Version Number (from "About" menu)
  75.    Windows Version
  76.    Amount of RAM in your computer

  79. REGISTRATION

  81. You may use the program free for 30 days.  A registration fee of $15
  82. (U.S.) is required if you continue to use it after that.  Users who
  83. register will receive the enhanced version of SimMap mentioned above.

  99. The authors are not responsible for anything at all.  Nothing.  Even if
  100. we are held responsible, the limit of our liability is the licensing fees
  101. you paid.

  104. SOFTWARE LICENSE
  105. ----------------
  106. Non-licensed users are granted a limited license to use SimMap on a
  107. 30-day trial basis for the purpose of determining whether SimMap is
  108. suitable for their needs.  The use of SimMap, except for the initial
  109. 30-day trial, requires registration.  The use of unlicensed copies of
  110. SimMap, outside of the initial 30-day trial, by any person, business,
  111. corporation, government agency or any other entity is strictly
  112. prohibited.

  114. A single user license permits a user to use SimMap only on a single
  115. computer.  Licensed users may use the program on different computers, but
  116. may not use the program on more than one computer at the same time.
  117.  
  118. No one may modify or patch the SimMap executable files in any way,
  119. including but not limited to decompiling, disassembling, or otherwise
  120. reverse engineering the program.
  121.  
  122. A limited license is granted to copy and distribute SimMap only for the
  123. trial use of others, subject to the above limitations, and also the
  124. following:
  125.  
  126.  1)    SimMap and all of its release files must be copied
  127.        in unmodified form, complete with the file containing
  128.        this license information.
  129.  
  130.  2)    SimMap may not be distributed in conjunction with
  131.        any other product without a specific license to do so
  132.        from Mark Schmelzer.
  133.  
  134.  3)    No fee, charge, or other compensation may be requested or
  135.        accepted, except as authorized below:
  136.  
  137.        A) Operators of electronic bulletin board systems (sysops)
  138.           may make SimMap available for downloading only as
  139.           long as the above conditions are met.  An overall or
  140.           time-dependent charge for the use of the bulletin board
  141.           system is permitted as long as there is not a specific
  142.           charge for the download of SimMap.

  144.        B) Vendors may distribute SimMap only after obtaining
  145.           written permission from Mark Schmelzer.  Such
  146.           permission is usually granted.  Please write for
  147.           details (enclose your catalog).

  149.        C) Non-profit user groups may distribute copies of the
  150.           SimMap diskette to their members, subject to
  151.           the above conditions, without specific permission.
  152.           Non-profit groups may collect a disk duplication fee
  153.           not to exceed three dollars.

  156. LIMITED WARRANTY
  157. ----------------
  158. Mark Schmelzer warrants that all disks provided are free from defects in
  159. material and workmanship, assuming normal use, for a period of 90 days
  160. from the date of purchase.

  162. Mark Schmelzer warrants that the program will perform in substantial
  163. compliance with the documentation supplied with the software product.  If
  164. a significant defect in the product is found, the Purchaser may return
  165. the product for a refund.  In no event will such a refund exceed the
  166. purchase price of the product.

  168. EXCEPT AS PROVIDED ABOVE, MARK SCHMELZER DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EITHER
  169. EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF
  170. MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, WITH RESPECT TO THE
  171. PRODUCT.  SHOULD THE PROGRAM PROVE DEFECTIVE, THE PURCHASER ASSUMES THE
  172. RISK OF PAYING THE ENTIRE COST OF ALL NECESSARY SERVICING, REPAIR, OR
  173. CORRECTION AND ANY INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES.  IN NO EVENT WILL
  174. MARK SCHMELZER BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES WHATSOEVER (INCLUDING WITHOUT
  175. LIMITATION DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF BUSINESS PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION,
  176. LOSS OF BUSINESS INFORMATION AND THE LIKE) ARISING OUT OF THE USE OR THE
