  10.           Retail software vis a vis Shareware software.

  12.           Shareware is a marketing concept developed by software authors who
  13.           were tired of the "buy it and like it" attitude of retail software
  14.           distributors.  With Shareware, you can actually try out a program
  15.           before you pay for it ... right on your own computer, with your own
  16.           computer system, just to make sure it meets your exact needs.  If 
  17.           it does, you send the purchase price to the author/company that 
  18.           wrote it.  If the Shareware program doesn't meet your needs, you 
  19.           simply delete it from your system.  All you've spent is a little 
  20.           time testing it and the modest cost charged by the Shareware 
  21.           vendor.

  25.                       Introduction to My Little Realm, the system

  27.           My Little Realm gives non-technical PC owners the chance to use 
  28.           PC computers to easily maintain and balance their checking account; 
  29.           track charge card expenses; create a phone/address book; print 
  30.           labels; address envelopes; track savings instruments; create a 
  31.           library of their personal books, tapes, cd's, etc.; monitor public 
  32.           library withdrawals; create "memory" records that let the computer 
  33.           remember where important documents (like wills, passports, etc.) 
  34.           are kept; track business expenses and incomes for part-time jobs; 
  35.           easily backup and retrieve files; encourage young readers to visit 
  36.           their local libraries; and still more.  MLR is self-installing, 
  37.           comes with online help files, and users need know nothing about 
  38.           DOS, accounting, or file maintenance to make use of the entire 
  39.           system.  Requires 2 MB of hard disk space.

  41.           Many of My Little Realm's programs may be purchased separately.  
  42.           These stand-alone modules can be run from either a floppy disk or 
  43.           a hard disk.  The stand-alone programs even make great gifts!  
  44.           They'll run on almost any kind of IBM compatible PC.

  48.                       The Stand-alone Programs of My Little Realm
  49.           
  50.           * Calling Cards.
  51.           Calling Cards lets you access your phone/address database as if it 
  52.           were your own personal Yellow Pages.  If you need a plumber, just 
  53.           tell Calling Cards to get you the number of your plumber.  And if 
  54.           you need labels, Calling Cards lets you put your records in either 
  55.           of two categories such as "Friends" and "Clients".  All you have to
  56.           do is put fanfold labels in your printer and tell Calling Cards 
  57.           which category you want the labels printed for.  You can also print
  58.           from one to 999 labels of any name and address currently displayed
  59.           using any of the Viewing functions, and you can even address 
  60.           envelopes.

  62.           * Charging.
  63.           If you're the "typical" American family you have seven credit 
  64.           cards.  Have you ever wondered where you stood with all of those 
  65.           cards?  How much is out on this one or that one?  Or all of them?  
  66.           The press of a single key in Charging will answer those questions.
  67.           If you need precise tracking of your charging expenditures, 
  68.           Charging can show you how much you spend at specific stores or in 
  69.           given situations.  This program is also known as the Charge Card or
  70.           Credit Card program.

  72.           * Checking.
  73.           Checking makes checkbook maintenance a breeze.  You create the 
  74.           records of your checks, deposits, autowithdrawals, and so on with a 
  75.           minimum of data entry.  A degree in accounting is definitely not 
  76.           required.  Checking automatically balances your checking account 
  77.           and tracks your personal income tax deductions (or whatever else 
  78.           you tell it to keep track of).

  80.           * Private Library.
  81.           The Private Library routine gives you the opportunity to put all of
  82.           your personal volumes (books, cd's, video tapes, etc.) online.  You
  83.           can sort, search, view and print your records in a variety of ways.

  85.           * Public Library.
  86.           The Public Library routine lets you easily keep track of the works 
  87.           you borrow from your public libraries.  It helps you remember when 
  88.           the books are due, and it maintains a historical log of everything 
  89.           you borrow.  That way you'll always know if you've returned a book 
  90.           or not, and you can view, sort, search and print your Historical 
  91.           file.

  93.           * Read More.
  94.           The Read More program was developed to encourage young readers to 
  95.           go to their public libraries.  Kids frequently complain that they 
  96.           can't find anything to read.  Almost all of the titles that come 
  97.           with Read More are fun reading.  They are not meant to replace the
  98.           "suggested reading lists" proffered by grade school and high school
  99.           English teachers.  Read More was designed to encourage young 
  100.           readers by showing them a wide variety of new authors and works 
  101.           that they would enjoy reading.  It comes with more than 2,000 
  102.           titles (registered version) that young readers can peruse and 
  103.           "check off" after they've read them.  Books are listed by age 
  104.           groups.  For ages 6 months to 18 years.

  106.           * Records of the Realm.
  107.           "Memory" records created by the Records of the Realm Routine help 
  108.           locate important documents in short order.  This routine can also 
  109.           save you a lot of trouble and headaches should you ever lose one or
  110.           more of your credit cards.  It will automatically generate a list 
  111.           of phone numbers of all of your charge card issuers so you can 
  112.           quickly make the necessary calls to stop payments, print letters to
  113.           those same issuers (required by most charge card issuers), and 
  114.           print labels for the envelopes.

  116.           * Savings.
  117.           Savings lets you keep track of all of your savings instruments ... 
  118.           certificates of deposit, passbook savings, Keough plans, IRA's, and 
  119.           so on.  It prints your savings portfolio, showing the total of the 
  120.           portfolio as well as the sub-totals by instrument.

  129.           1  Main Menu.  It lets you easily change color modes, shell out to 
  130.                          DOS, see your computer's resources, and invoke MLR's
  131.                          ScreenSaver ... all at the touch of a button.  It

  133.                          MLR stand-alone programs described above.

  135.           2  Utilities.  MLR comes with its own backup and retrieval 
  136.                          utilities.  You can back up all of your files with 
  137.                          the press of a single key.  And you can retrieve 
  138.                          backed up files by simply telling Retrieve which MLR
  139.                          program has a bad file.  Retrieve will do the rest.
  140.                          You don't have to know a thing about DOS!

  142.           3  Documentation.  MLR/the System comes with its own documentation 
  143.                          viewer so you can refer to your help files without 
  144.                          leaving the system.

  146.           4  Common interface.  MLR's programs are easy to learn, and once 
  147.                          you learn how to use one, you'll know how to use 
  148.                          them all because they all work the same way.

  150.           5  Review Programs.  Two review programs let you access your 
  151.                          checking and charging files to see how you've been 
  152.                          spending your hard-earned money.  Both allow you to 
  153.                          peruse your files in a scrollable window, and you 
  154.                          can query and search your files as well.  They also 
  155.                          generate a year-to-date summary of your records.
