- This routine will calculate the direction and distance between two stations,
- which are in reality in the same place.
-
- It will also prestidigitate an absent survey call, but this is an exceedingly
- dangerous operation. Not only will the result include the missing call, but
- also all the errors and blunders accumulated over the entire land description.
- Shyster surveyors often leave out the last call ("thence back to the
- beginning") precisely for this reason.
-
- I will guess that a closure is between the first and last station in the data.
- If you do not like it, then you can enter the station names. Note that you
- must include the prefix, if any.
-
- I will close the loop, assuming that the error is in the compass. This is a
- good assumption with the old deeds which were surveyed with an undamped compass
- on a Jacob's staff, and a Gunter's chain. Modern theodolites and transits are
- more accurate than any possible chain or Electronical Distance Meter, but if
- you have enuf error with a transit to see, then you have a blunder and you
- should find it.
-
- If your loop closes without excessive error, then you can calculate the area.
- It will be reported in units appropriate to the distance unit used for output.
- A rood is a ¼ acre. A hectare is almost 2½ acres.
