  6.  Version 2.0 for IBM-DOS and DOS compatibles running Windows

  9.  WHAT IS IT?
  10.  Merit's "Cruise of the Internet" is a computer-based tutorial for new
  11.  as well as experienced Internet "navigators."  The Cruise will introduce
  12.  you to Internet resources as diverse as supercomputing, minorities,
  13.  multimedia, and even cooking. It will also provide information about the
  14.  tools needed to access those resources.
  15.  
  16.  SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
  17.  This tutorial will run on any IBM-DOS or DOS-compatible computer which
  18.  is equipped to display 256 colors at an aspect ratio of 640 x 480. To
  19.  run the Cruise tutorial you will need:
  20.  
  21.     - An IBM-DOS or DOS-compatible computer 
  22.     - XGA- or XGA-compatible adapter set to display 256 colors at 640 x 480
  23.     - Microsoft Windows(TM) version 3.1
  24.     - Approximately 1.5 MB of disk space
  25.     - 2 MB RAM minimum
  26.     - Internet connectivity and software that does file transfers via FTP.

  28.  HOW TO INSTALL IT:
  29.  The following directions will install the Cruise in the WINDOWS directory
  30.  on your C: drive and as an icon in the Applications Window.
  31.  
  32.  1. On your PC type:
  33.          cd c:\windows
  34.  2. Use Anonymous FTP (File Transfer Protocol) to obtain the directions
  35.     (this file) and the Cruise (in binary format):
  36.          ftp nic.merit.edu
  37.          username: anonymous
  38.          password: guest
  39.          ftp> cd resources
  40.          ftp> get merit.cruise2.win.readme meritcrz.txt
  41.          ftp> binary
  42.          ftp> get merit.cruise2.win.exe meritcrz.exe
  43.          ftp> quit
  44.  3. Start Windows by typing "WIN" at the DOS-prompt.
  45.  4. Open the Applications window.
  46.  5. Click on the File option in the Program Manager window.
  47.  6. Click on New.
  48.  7. In the New Program Object window, click the Program Item
  49.     button, and then on OK.
  50.  8. In the Program Item Properties window, fill in the boxes as follows:
  51.          Description:         Merit's Cruise 2.0
  52.          Command Line:        meritcrz
  53.          Working Directory:   c:\windows
  54.     and then click on OK.
  55.  9. A movie projector icon with the label "Merit's Cruise 2.0" should
  56.     appear in the Applications window.  To run the Cruise, double-click
  57.     on the icon.

  59.  Note: If you do not have Internet connectivity from your PC, you may
  60.  still be able to acquire the Cruise.  Talk to your local support staff
  61.  to determine if other machines on your campus have FTP capabilities and
  62.  a way to transfer binary files to your PC.

  64.  DISTRIBUTION:
  65.  You may copy and distribute the Cruise without charge. You must
  66.  include the MERITCRZ.TXT file with the Cruise and you may not charge
  67.  any fees for the distribution of the Cruise.

  69.  A version of the cruise for Apple Macintosh II, LC, and Quadra computers
  70.  is also available for Anonymous FTP from nic.merit.edu in the same directory.
