  1. POTENTIAL PROBLEMS WITH MEMORY RESIDENT PROGRAMS:

  3. Being able to launch other applications from Contact Plus while in
  4. memory resident mode can have problems. If you intend on launching
  5. normal (non-memory resident) programs using the F5 key you will be ok.
  6. If you try launching a memory resident program, you will most likely
  7. crash your machine and lose some valuable information.
  8.  
  9. Do not load memory resident programs after pressing F5 (DOS) key.
  10. This will cause unpredictable results and your machine will probably
  11. crash. Sample scenario: you hotkey to Contact Plus and then wish to
  12. launch DOS by pressing F5. You go to the DOS prompt fine then run
  13. SideKick or any other memory resident program. This is the point where
  14. your system will probably crash.

  16. RUNNING ONE PROGRAM TWICE
  17. Do not try running your word processing program twice. The following
  18. sample scenario will illustrate the problem:
  19.  
  20.     1) You are running WordPerfect, then decide to hotkey to
  21.        Contact Plus.
  22.  
  23.     2) You press the hotkey which launches Contact Plus. Contact
  24.        Plus launches successfully.
  25.  
  26.     3) While in Contact Plus, you decide to write one of your
  27.        contacts a letter using the F6 (WP) key. The F6 key
  28.        happens to run WordPerfect again! 
  29.  
  30.     4) If you are running WP 5.1 you should get a meesage
  31.        "ARE THERE ANY OTHER COPIES OF WORDPERFECT RUNNING?  (Yes/No)?"

  33.         Make sure to answer "YES" then select a directory for
  34.         WordPerfect.  If you tell a lie and answer "NO", the
  35.     machine will likely crash.

  38. GRAPHIC PROGRAMS
  39. Contact Plus can pop up over many graphic applications. There may be
  40. problems with certain graphic applications which change the EGA/VGA
  41. palette registers. What will happen is Contact Plus will launch when
  42. the hot key is pressed, the graphic screen will be temporarily stored
  43. on the hard disk or EMS, Contact Plus will then run. Once Contact Plus
  44. is finished, the graphic screen is displayed again. The colors on some
  45. graphic programs may be changed, this normally can be remedied by
  46. re-displaying the graphic screen. Otherwise, you may not be able to
  47. launch Contact Plus while running that particular application.

  50. DOS SHELLS and MENU PROGRAMS
  51. These programs create a menu-based program selection environment which
  52. is more intuitive than the normal DOS commands. To run Contact Plus
  53. with a DOS shell, load Contact Plus BEFORE you load the Shell.

  56. MOUSE DRIVERS
  57. Make sure to load Contact Plus AFTER any mouse driver is loaded.

  60. NETWORKED COMPUTERS
  61. Make sure that you load Contact Plus AFTER any network driver is
  62. installed.

  65. LOADING INTO HIGH MEMORY
  66. Contact Plus CANNOT be loaded into HIGH memory at this point.

  69. WORDPROCESSING
  70. If you have an EGA or VGA monitor and are running WordPerfect, you
  71. cannot use the extended 28, 43 or 50 line text modes.  The memory
  72. resident version of Contact Plus will NOT work properly with
  73. WordPerfect in any non-standard mode.  This is probably true with
  74. any other word processor that changes the standard display fonts.
