  2. CDPLAYER - EVALUATION COPY

  4. To install the evaluation copy of CDPlayer(TM) follow the instructions contained
  5. in the file INSTALL.DOS or INSTALL.WIN for DOS or Windows.
  6.  
  7. EVALUATION COPY LICENCE AGREEMENT
  8.  
  9. The program in this package is a proprietary product of Jupiter Software and
  10. is protected by Copyright Law.  Jupiter retains title to and ownership of the
  11. program.  You are licenced to use the program on the following terms and
  12. conditions:

  14. 1    You may use the program for a period of 30 days, without paying a
  15.      licence fee, for the purpose of evaluation.
  16.  
  17. 2    You may copy the installation disk and distribute it to your friends
  18.      and colleagues for them to evaluate provided you comply with the
  19.      following:
  20.  
  21.      a)   No charge is made for providing the disk, other than a small
  22.           handling charge to cover costs.
  23.      b)   You give them a copy of this notice.
  24.      c)   All files on the disk are copied and included on the distribution
  25.           disk without alteration.
  26.      d)   All copyright notices and information remain intact.

  28. 3    You may not decompile, disassemble, reverse engineer, or in any way
  29.      modify the program code without the prior written consent of Jupiter.

  31. Jupiter warrants that the program will perform in substantial compliance with
  32. the documentation.  If you report a problem to Jupiter it will be examined
  33. and if necessary the program will be updated and a new copy issued to you.
  34. You agree that the only remedy available to you will be the replacement of the
  35. program, if a program error was involved.

  39. Users of CDPlayer must accept this disclaimer of warranty:

  41. "CDPlayer is supplied as is.  The author disclaims all warranties, expressed
  42. or implied, including, without limitation, the warranties of merchantability
  43. and of fitness for any purpose, other than as outlined above.

  45. IN NO EVENT WILL JUPITER OR ANY OF ITS EMPLOYEES BE LIABLE TO YOU FOR DAMAGES,

  59. GENERAL DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE

  61. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying it.
  62. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are expected to
  63. register.  Individual programs differ on details -- some request registration
  64. while others require it, some specify a maximum trial period.  With
  65. registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue using the
  66. software to an updated program with printed manual.

  68. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and the
  69. copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as stated
  70. below.  Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like commercial
  71. authors, and the programs are of comparable quality.  (In both cases, there
  72. are good programs and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
  73. distribution.  The author specifically grants the right to copy and distribute
  74. the software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group.  For example,
  75. some authors require written permission before a commercial disk vendor may
  76. copy their Shareware.

  78. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software.  You should find
  79. software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's commercial or
  80. Shareware.  The Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier, because you
  81. can try before you buy.  And because the overhead is low, prices are low also.
  82. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
  83. product, you don't pay for it.

  85. CDPlayer is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to the user for
  86. evaluation.  Feel free to share it with your friends, but please do not give
  87. it away altered or as part of another system.  The essence of "user-supported"
  88. software is to provide personal computer users with quality software without
  89. high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to continue to
  90. develop new products.  If you find this program useful and find that you are
  91. using CDPlayer and continue to use CDPlayer after the 30 day trial period, you
  92. must make a registration payment of £15+p&p UK pds (p&p is £3 UK pds for UK
  93. residents and £6 UK pds for oversease registrations)  to Jupiter Software.  The £15
  94. registration fee will license one copy for use on any one computer at any one
  95. time.  You must treat this software just like a book.  An example is that this
  96. software may be used by any number of people and may be freely moved from one
  97. computer location to another, so long as there is no possibility of it being
  98. used at one location while it's being used at another.  Just as a book cannot
  99. be read by two different persons at the same time.

  101. Anyone distributing CDPlayer for any kind of remuneration must first contact
  102. Jupiter Software at the address shwon in the README file and Manual.

  104. You are encouraged to pass a copy of CDPlayer along to your friends for
  105. evaluation.  Please encourage them to register their copy if they find that
  106. they can use it.  All registered users will receive a copy of the latest
  107. version of the CDPlayer system.
