ACCOUNT PRO - SHAREWARE VERSION

This shareware copy is 100% functional. It differs from the license version
only by some registration reminder screens, which will start to appear occ-
asionally, when more than 200 transactions have been entered. These screens
are there to remind you that you may use this software on a trial basis only,
and that you must obtain a licensed copy, if you want to use it regularly.

The shareware concept allows you to evaluate the software in detail and then
to decide whether it fits your needs or not and whether you like it or not,
prior to an eventual purchase.

Before you go ahead, please note the following hints: Firstly, install the
software carefully, following the instructions further below. Secondly, pro-
duce a printout of the file MANUAL.TXT, which is an ASCII file containing the
user's manual. You can do that using the DOS print command (PRINT MANUAL.TXT)
or you can use a word processor or an editor program to print the manual out.

You can purchase a licensed copy of the software directly from the author,
against payment of a license fee. Together with the program diskette, you will
also receive a printed and properly bound user's manual, which contains not
only the program operating instructions, but includes also an easily under-
standable section on the basics of double-entry bookkeeping, and numerous
practical accounting examples. As a registered user, you will regularly be
informed about new program versions, and you will be entitled to purchase them
with large discounts.


REGISTRATION

You will receive an ACCOUNT PRO program diskette and a printed user's manual
against pre-payment of 148 Swiss Francs to the program author:

The file ORDER.FRM contains an order form, which you may print from DOS by
simply entering PRINT ORDER.FRM. Please do not forget to indicate the diskette
size required (5 1/4 or 3 1/2 inch) and your complete address, and allow up to
three weeks for delivery!


PROGRAM SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

ACCOUNT PRO is a modern, user friendly and fast accounting and finance-
planning program, which can be operated with a mouse or keyboard. ACCOUNT PRO
is based on the principle of double-entry bookkeeping. It is particularly
suitable for small to medium size businesses and for private persons who wish
to manage their own money, or the finances of an institution, association or a
club. ACCOUNT PRO is capable of networking and can handle up to 152 different
accounting systems.

Comfortable pull-down menus and context-sensitive help will also enable the
accounting novice to familiarize himself with the program rapidly and to work
efficiently right from the beginning.

As opposed to 'normal' accounting systems, where erroneous transactions must
be neutralized (cancelled) and corrected by additional transactions, ACCOUNT
PRO allows direct correction of such transactions anytime. Furthermore,
ACCOUNT PRO avoids the terms 'Debit' and 'Credit' for data entry. Instead, an
amount sign is used, which makes data entry faster and easier.  Nevertheless,
the displays and printouts of ACCOUNT PRO are in accordance with normal
accounting terminology.

An accounting period in ACCOUNT PRO can have a length of between two days and
one year. It can start in any month and can overlap two calendar years. Per
accounting period, up to 16,300 (double-entry) transactions are possible on up
to 528 accounts.

ACCOUNT PRO is entirely screen-orientated and can be operated without ever
printing anything out. Transactions and corrections can be entered directly in
the on-screen displays of the account sheets. A calculator function, 18 store-
able standard transactions and a feature for automatic entry of tax and dis-
count transactions increase working comfort. Further, a simple 'open item'
management function helps to control debtors and creditors easily.

ACCOUNT PRO's main reports comprise account sheets, journal displays,
balance sheets and profit & loss statements, yearly and monthly planning
overviews and various statistical reports. Six different formats are
available for displaying of the amounts. All of the major reports can
also be printed out or be exported for further processing with spread
sheet or database programs.

Access to the accounting systems can be individually password-protected.

In addition to the normal capabilities required for accounting, ACCOUNT PRO
has special capabilities which allow efficient financial planning. Not only
monthly budgets, but also monthly forecasts can be entered for every
expenditure and revenue account. The data of the individual accounts is ente-
red in easily viewable tables. Monthly and yearly planning reports facilitate
overviewing of the system as a whole. With these features, realistic forecasts
of the financial result at the end of the accounting period can be made any
time.

ACCOUNT PRO does not try to be in accordance with any law or guideline. In
particular, the possibility of direct modification of transactions (instead of
cancellation and correction by additional entries) might be interpreted to be
conflicting with the (only vaguely defined) requirement of 'sound accounting
practice'. In cases where accounting is required by law, it is therefore
recommended that it is verified, whether or not the use of ACCOUNT PRO is
acceptable.


HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS

To run ACCOUNT PRO, you need an IBM-compatible PC with

    - at least 512 K of main memory

    - a hard disk

    - DOS 3.0 or higher


INSTALLING AND EXPLORING ACCOUNT PRO, STANDARD CHARTS OF ACCOUNTS

ACCOUNT PRO cannot be directly run and must be properly installed:

Copy the ACCOUNT PRO program diskette to a diskette which will fit into one of
your diskette drives. Load the copied diskette into the appropriate drive and
make that drive the default drive. Enter INSTALL and [Enter] to start the
installation program, and follow its instructions. Please note that when
installed on a stand-alone PC, ACCOUNT PRO must be started by entering <A>
(and not <ACCOUNT>).

If you operate a 386- or 486-PC under DOS 5 and utilize upper memory for
resident programs and device drivers (with DOS=HIGH,UMB and DEVICEHIGH/
LOADHIGH), your best bet is to install ACCOUNT PRO so that it uses the hard
disk or a DOS RAM disk (RAMDRIVE.SYS) for interim data storage. Under certain
circumstances, trouble may be faced, if ACCOUNT PRO is installed with its own
RAM disk (RAM.SYS) for interim data storage. Alternatively, you can experiment
with CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT, and relocate high loaded programs or device
drivers to low memory, one by one. The manual (MANUAL.TXT) contains 6 examples
of CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files, with which ACCOUNT PRO runs without any
problem. Use these as guidelines for your experiments.

The file SAMPLE92 contains a sample accounting system, which you may use to
explore ACCOUNT PRO. The files UNIVPLAN and PRIVPLAN are empty accounting
systems containing universal charts of accounts suitable for small to medium
businesses and for private accounts, respectively. You can easily adapt these
charts of accounts to your particular requirements by deleting or inserting any
unneeded or additionally required accounts, respectively. To create a system
using entirely your own chart of accounts, please refer to the manual
(MANUAL.TXT).
