  18.  The following describes briefly how to convert
  19.  archives in the UI(User Interface) mode.

  21.  1) Goto Options(F3) and set any options that
  22.     you need to, such as the archive you want to
  23.     convert to, etc.  Be sure and press <F10>
  24.     to save your selections.

  26.  2) If you want to convert more than one archive
  27.     then tag the archives you wish to convert.
  28.  
  29.  3) If you just want to convert one archive, then
  30.     highlight it and press <ENTER>.  If you want
  31.     to convert multiple archives, then press <F2>
  32.     and select the appropriate method.

  43.  Welcome to AC - The Archive Converter! AC will
  44.  convert to/from  any know archive type and can
  45.  also be configured to convert to/from any archives
  46.  that may be released in the future.

  48.  AC has 2 modes of operation: Command Line and
  49.  UI(User Interface) Mode Running AC without any
  50.  command line options will start AC in UI Mode.
  51.  The only exception is setting the initial number
  52.  of rows when starting AC.  All of the features
  53.  that AC has are available in both modes of
  54.  operation.

  59.  UI Mode provides an easy to use interface for
  60.  users who prefer not having to learn many
  61.  different commands, just to begin using a

  68.  AC what to do from DOS using command line
  69.  options.  For more help on using the command
  70.  line portion of AC, see the file AC.DOC that

  86.  this program to be quite reasonable.  Once you register

  167.  to make changes to a program.  When you press
  168.  <F3>(Options), you will be presented with a
  169.  dialog box.  The Following terms are useful
  170.  when describing Dialog Boxes:

  172.  Field      - A field is an indivual item of
  173.                 information that must be filled in.

  175.  Dialog Box - A collection of fields make up a
  176.                 dialog box.

  262.  any directories that may have been stored in
  263.  the original archive would be lost.

  313.   Pressing <INS> will toggle insert/overwrite mode.

  335.  or not AC will report conversions to a log
  336.  file or not.  If logging is ON, then AC will

  339.  is in.  When logging is OFF, no reporting will
  340.  take place.

  350.  This option allows you to control how AC
  351.  will handle archive files that are stored
  352.  inside of another archive.  When Nesting
  353.  is OFF, AC will treat any nested archives
  354.  like any other file.  When Nesting is ON,
  355.  AC will convert any archives inside of the
  356.  original archive to the archive type that
  357.  the original is being converted to.
  358.  
  359.  Notes:
  360.   -AC only supports nesting 1 level deep.
  361.    What this means is that it will not
  362.    convert an archive in an archive in an
  363.    archive.
  364.   -Use this option with care.  Many programs
  365.    have installation routines that expect
  366.    archives to be a certain type.  If you
  367.    convert nested archves, you may find you
  368.    have to manually install the program.

  387.  When you select this option, AC will reverse
  388.  the Tag state of all files in the current
  389.  directory.  any files that were tagged will

  392.  files have been tagged and you select this
  393.  option, ALL files would be tagged since there
  394.  would be no tagged files to untag.

  402.  This option allows you to turn Updating ON or OFF.
  403.  When Updating is ON, AC will support conversions
  404.  of archives to the same type.    This is useful if
  405.  you want to upgrade an archive file to a newer
  406.  version.  IE PkZip 1.10 to PkZip 2.04g.

  408.  The following conditions will cause AC to
  409.  automatically turn updating ON temporarily
  410.  during conversion:
  411.    1)  You highlight an archive and press <ENTER>
  412.    2)  You tag an archive, press <F2> and choose
  413.        to convert all tagged archives.

  415.  The following options will ONLY update an archive
  416.  if updating is turned ON.
  417.    1)  You press <F2> and choose to convert ALL
  418.        archives.  If updating is OFF, then like
  419.        archives will simply be skipped.
  420.    2)  You press <F2> and choose to convert all
  421.        untagged files.    When updating is off any
  422.        archives with like extensions will be
  423.        skipped.

  431.   When you select this option AC will change the
  432.   video mode or the number of rows on the screen.
  433.   The possible options are 25, 28, 43, and 50.
  434.   You must have a VGA display for this to operate
  435.   correctly.  If AC cannot change the video mode,
  436.   then it will default to 25 lines.
