  6. trillion yen. The yakuza are unofficially
  7. tolerated and very powerful. Their main areas
  8. of activity are prostitution, pornography,
  9. sports, entertainment, and moneylending; they
  10. have close links with the construction
  11. industry and with some politicians. There is
  12. considerable rivalry between gangs. Many
  13. yakuza have one or more missing fingertips, a
  14. self-inflicted ritual injury in atonement for
  15. an error.
