  1. Latin `Great Bear' the third largest
  2. constellation in the sky, in the north polar
  3. region. Its seven brightest stars make up the
  4. familiar shape of the Big Dipper or Plough.
  5. The second star of the `handle' of the
  6. dipper, called Mizar, has a companion star,
  7. Alcor. Two stars forming the far side of the
  8. `bowl' act as pointers to the north pole
  9. star, Polaris.
