  3. conquest of N China from 1240, and on his
  4. brother Mungo's death 1259 established
  5. himself as emperor of China. He moved the
  6. capital to Beijing and founded the Yuan
  7. dynasty, successfully expanding his empire
  8. into Indochina, but was defeated in an
  9. attempt to conquer Japan 1281.
