Three small volcanic Pacific islands
belonging to Chile; almost uninhabited. The
largest is Mas-a-Tierra (also sometimes
called Juan Fernandez Island), where
Alexander Selkirk was marooned 1704-09. The
islands were named after the Spanish
navigator who reached them in 1563.
