A prominent oval feature, 14,000 km/8,500 mi
wide and some 30,000 km/20,000 mi long, in
the atmosphere of the planet Jupiter, south
of the equator. Observed for over a century,
recent space probes showed it to be an
anticlockwise vortex of cold clouds, coloured
possibly by phosphorus.
