The Great Barrier Reef is a chain of coral
reefs and islands about 2,000km (1,250miles)
long, off the East coast of Queensland,
Australia, at a distance of 15-45km
(10-30miles). It is believed to be the
world's largest living organism and forms an
immense natural breakwater, the coral rock
forming a structure larger than all
human-made structures on Earth combined.
