Formica is a trademark of the Formica
Corporation for a heat-proof plastic
laminate, widely used as a veneer on
wipe-down kitchen surfaces and children's
furniture. It is made from formaldehyde
resins similar to Bakelite. It was first put
on the market in 1913.
