  1. Foot-and-mouth disease is a contagious 
  2. eruptive viral disease of cloven-hoofed 
  3. mammals, characterized by blisters in the 
  4. mouth and around the hooves. In cattle it 
  5. causes deterioration of milk yield and 
  6. abortions. It is an airborne virus which 
  7. makes its eradication extremely difficult.
