In botany, a dry, usually many-seeded fruit
that splits along one side only to release
the seeds within. It is derived from a single
carpel, examples include the fruits of the
Delphinium and columbine Aquilegia. It
differs from a pod, which always splits open
(dehisces) along both sides.
