  2. (1859-1917) as an international auxiliary
  3. language. For its structure and vocabulary it
  4. draws on Latin, the Romance languages,
  5. English, and German. Esperanto spread from
  6. Europe to Japan, Brazil, and, especially,
  7. China. Its structure is completely regular,
  8. with consistent endings for nouns and
  9. adjectives. The spelling is phonetic, but the
  10. accent varies according to the regional
