The terrestrial equator is the great circle
whose plane is perpendicular to the Earth's
axis (the line joining the poles). Its length
is 40,092 km/24,901.8 mi, divided into 360
degrees of longitude. The celestial equator
is the circle in which the plane of the
Earth's equator intersects the celestial
sphere.
