  1. A curve joining all points (loci) around two
  2. fixed points (foci) such that the sum of the
  3. distances from those points is always
  4. constant. The diameter passing through the
  5. foci is the major axis, and the diameter
  6. bisecting this at right angles is the minor
  7. axis. An ellipse is one of a series of curves
  8. known as conic sections. A slice across a
  9. cone that is not made parallel to, or does
  10. not pass through, the base will produce an
  11. ellipse.
