  1. 1. The alliance of Nazi Germany and Fascist
  2. Italy before and during World War II.  The
  3. Rome-Berlin Axis was formed 1936, when Italy
  4. was being threatened with sanctions because
  5. of its invasion of Ethiopia (Abyssinia).  It
  6. became a full military and political alliance
  7. May 1939.  A 10-year alliance between
  8. Germany, Italy, and Japan (Rome-Berlin-Tokyo
  9. Axis) was signed Sept 1940 and was
  10. subsequently joined by Hungary, Bulgaria,
  11. Romania, and the puppet states of Slovakia
  12. and Croatia.  The Axis collapsed with the
  13. fall of Mussolini and the surrender of Italy
  14. 1943, followed by Germany and Japan 1945.
