The term assault is an intentional act or
threat of physical violence against a person
or persons. In English law it is both a crime
and civily wrong. The kinds of criminal
assault that are most common is aggravated
assault and indecent assault.
In the USA, 25% of violent crimes committed
against women during a fourteen year period
were carried out by people known to the
victim, compared with 4% of crimes against
men.
