Apache is a member of a group of North
American Indian peoples who lived as hunters
in the Southwest. They are related to the
Navajo, and now number about 10,000, most of
which living in reservations in Arizona,
South West Oklahoma, and New Mexico. They were
known as fierce raiders and horse warriors in
the 18th and 19th centuries.
Apache also refers to any of several southern
Athabaskan languages and dialects spoken by
these people.
