Amino acid is a water-soluble organic
molecule, mainly composed of carbon, oxygen,
hydrogen, and nitrogen, containing both a
basic amino group and an acidic
carboxyl group. When two or more amino acids
are joined together, they are known as
peptides, these are proteins made up of
interacting polypeptides and are folded or
twisted in characteristic shapes.
Many different proteins are found in the
cells of living organisms, but they are all
made up of the same 20 amino acids, joined
together in varying combinations, other
types of amino acid do occur infrequently
in nature.
