  1. Native to or an inhabitant of Afghanistan.
  2. The dominant group, particularly in Kabul,
  3. are the Pathans. The Tadzhiks, a smaller
  4. ethnic group, are predominantly traders and
  5. farmers in the province of Herat and around
  6. Kabul. The Hazaras, another farming group,
  7. are found in the southern mountain ranges of
  8. the Hindu Kush. The Uzbeks and Turkomen are
  9. farmers, and speak Altaic family languages.
  10. The smallest Altaic minority are the Kirghiz,
  11. who live in the Pamir. Baluchi nomads live in
  12. the south, and Nuristani farmers live in the
  13. mountains of the north east. The Pathans,
  14. Tadzhiks, and Hazaras are traditionally
  15. nomadic horse breeders, and speak languages
  16. belonging to the Iranian branch of the
  17. Indo-European family. The majority of the
  18. population are Sunni Muslims, the most recent
  19. converts being the Nuristanis.
