  1. Aeroplane, or airplane
  2. Powered heavier-than-air craft supported in
  3. flight by fixed wings. Aeroplanes are
  4. propelled by the thrust of a jet engine or
  5. airscrew (propeller). They must be designed
  6. aerodynamically, since streamlining ensures
  7. maximum flight efficiency. The shape of a
  8. plane depends on its use and operating speed
  9. - aircraft operating at well below the speed
  10. of sound need not be as streamlined as
  11. supersonic aircraft. The Wright brothers flew
  12. the first powered plane (a biplane) in Kitty
