A type of connective tissue of vertebrates
that serves as an energy reserve, and also
pads some organs. It is commonly called fat
tissue, and consists of large spherical cells
filled with fat. In mammals, major layers are
in the inner layer of skin and around the
kidneys and heart. Fatty acids are
transported to and from it via the blood
system.
