Computer-programming language, developed and
owned by the US Department of Defense,
designed for use in situations where the
computer directly controls a process or
machine, such as a military aircraft. The
language took over five years to specify, and
only became commercially available in the
late 1980s. It is named after Ada Lovelace,
regarded as the world's first computer
programmer.
