  48.         This CD contains the ELSA Display Driver for Microsoft
  49.         Windows 95/98
  50.  
  51.         The driver supports 256, 65536 and 16 Million colors
  52.         in all resolutions available on used ELSA board.

  80. 3.      Installation
  81.

  83. 3.1     First installation of ELSA Display Driver
  84.  
  85.         First install Windows 95/98 without special drivers for the ELSA
  86.         graphics board. The installation procedure should
  87.         find a PCI VGA-compatible display adapter and ask for a
  88.         "Driver from disk provided by hardware manufacturer".
  89.         - Push the "OK"-button
  90.  
  91.         - "Copy manufacturer's files from:"
  92.           CD-Drive: this directory (e.g.: E:\VICTORY2\WIN9x)
  93.           The neccessary files will be copy and Windows 95/98 asks 
  94.           for restart.
  95.  
  96.         - Push the "Yes"-button
  97.  
  98.         Normally you need to boot your system. Push the button "Restart
  99.         now".

  101. 3.2     Manuell installation of ELSA Display Driver
  102.         under Windows 95

  105.         - Start the dialog "Properties for Display" by clicking right
  106.           mouse button on the desktop or select per Control Panel 
  107.           -> "Display".

  109.         - Select the Property Page "Settings" 
  110.  
  111.         - Click on "Advanced Properties"

  113.         - Push the button "Change...". A dialog "Select Device" will 
  114.           pop up.
  115.  
  116.         - Push the button "Have Disk..." and "Browse..."

  118.         - change to the 'drivers' directory on the WINNERware CD.

  120.         - Select your ELSA display adapter in the "Devices" list.

  122.         - Close the dialog "Select device". At this time the
  123.           screen may flicker for a moment. This is not a bug! Windows 
  124.           is trying to find out, which graphics modes are available with
  125.           this driver.

  127.         - Please answer the following questions with "OK" or "Apply" and
  128.           reboot the system.

  130.         - Now you can select resolution and color depth in the main
  131.           dialog "Properties for Display". For the first installation
  132.           you should select 1024x768 in HiColor. This configuration
  133.           is available for all memory configurations on all ELSA
  134.           Boards.

  136.         - Close "Properties for Display" by "OK" or "Apply
  137.  
  138.         After the restart the configuration of the ELSA display adapter
  139.         driver starts from the Windows desktop.

  158.         - Start the dialog "Display Properties" by clicking the right
  159.           mouse button on the desktop or select per Control Panel

  162.         - Select the Property Page "Settings" and than select "advanced"
  163.           , "Adapter" - "Change".

  165.         - The "Update Device Driver Wizard" starts and helps you 
  166.           through the installation procedure for the new graphics 
  167.           boards display driver. Select "Next"

  169.         - In this dialog push the first checkbox push the "Next" 
  170.           button check "Specify a location" and change to the WIN9x 
  171.           directory on the WINNERware CD for your VICTORY II board.
  172.         
  173.         - Press "OK" or "Apply" to install the specified driver.

  175.         - If you use an ELSA monitor, make the same procedure for
  176.           "Monitor Type" in the "Monitor" dialog.
  177.  
  178.         - Close the "Display Properties" dialog. At this time the
  179.           screen flickers a moment. This is not a bug! Windows tries to
  180.           find out, which graphics modes are available with this

  246. 5.1     DirectDraw/Direct3D support
  247.  
  248.  
  249.         The display driver do support DirectDraw/Direct3D from 
  250.         DirectX 5/6, but to use it in an application, you must install 
  251.         DirectDraw/Direct3D. The Microsoft DirectDraw/Direct3D 
  252.         components are not included in the standard retail version 
  253.         of Windows 95. You need an installation of DirectX 5/6.

  255.         To install DirectDraw/Direct3D use the CDSETUP from your
  256.         WINNERWARE CD or start the DXSETUP.EXE in the folder:
  257.  
  258.         Drive:\Winware\MSAPPS\DIRECTX6\... or newer:

  273. 5.2     AGP and Windows 95/98
  274.  
  275.  
  276.         AGP is supported only by the Windows version OSR-2.1 or higher. 
  277.         This is available after upgrading a Windows 95b (OSR2) version 
  278.         by the USB-Update 'USBSUPP.EXE'.
  279.         The version number of your installed Windows can be found in
  280.         the registry under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
  281.         Windows\CurrentVersion\Version and VersionNumber.
  282.         The Entries for OSR-2.1 are:

  288.         If your mainboard has no Intel chipset it may be necessary to
  289.         install a chipset specific software patch to get best support 
  290.         and performance using the AGP port. 
  291.         Normally this patch should be delivered on CD with your system
  292.         or mainboard. Otherwise you may get the newest patches on the 
  293.         internetsites of the chipset vendors.

  300.         If you have any questions about full AGP support on non Intel 
  301.         mainboards please consult your distributor.

  303. 5.3     Free definable refresh rates (monitor timings) per ELSA Settings

  305.         It is necessary to install and use the  specified INF - file 
  306.         delivered with your monitor. For information about how to install 
  307.         those please look above or use the windows documentation.

  312. 6.      Known Bugs and Operating Notes
  313.  
  314.         This section documents known anomalies or problems and gives
  315.         hints on work-arounds.
  316.  
  317.         - if there are flashing effects visible while playing 3D games 
  318.           with "3D Stereo" feature enabled, please make sure that the 
  319.           checkbox "poll with interrupts enabled" under:
  320.            
  321.           Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Game Controllers
  322.           -> Advanced 
  323.           
  324.           is enabled. 
  325.  
  326.         - for maximum performance the AntiAliasing checkbox in: Display 
  327.           Properties - Settings - Advanced - 3D Settings - Settings for 
  328.           DirectX, Options, should be set to "Disable"
  329.  
  330.         - Switching Duke3D between fullscreen and windowed mode
  331.           (using ALT-ENTER) sometimes crashes the system.
  332.  
  333.         - This display driver is only for singlescreen in Windows 95/98.
